Mesut Özil left the field through injury late in last night’s Germany v Sweden game, raising fears he may be forced to sit out Arsenal’s Premier League tie with Norwich on Saturday.

Özil had a decidedly mixed 25th birthday. Sweden went into a 2-0 lead before Arsenal’s record signing scored Germany’s first goal and set up Mario Götze for their second to begin a comeback that eventually brought a 5-3 victory. Then, with less than 10 minutes remaining, Özil limped off the field and straight down the tunnel with a knee injury.

Reports in Germany suggest the playmaker has suffered only bruising to his right knee but this may be enough for Arsène Wenger to play it safe at the weekend.

The latest Arsenal target to be linked with a January move to the Emirates is the Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begović.

Several of England’s top clubs are known to have long coveted the 26-year-old, who has 25 caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina and recently made his 100th appearance for Stoke.

Having previously maintained the line that Begović was not for sale at any price, the Stoke chairman Peter Coates has conceded for the first time that the club would be prepared to listen to suitable offers for the club’s first-choice keeper, which Metro suggests would mean a bid in the region of £8 million.

Due to the imperious form of first choice centre backs Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has hardly seen any game time this season. And with it being a world cup year, and Belgium qualifying for their first tournament since 2002, you could understand if the player had frustrations.

Spoken to Wenger

The Belgian has revealed that he has spoken to Arsene Wenger over his frustration at a lack of action this season, though has revealed he does not really want to leave the club.

Following yesterdays story that Arsenal were linked with Frenchman Karim Benzema, there have today now been further developments, whilst Arsenal are also being linked with an Italian and another German.

Ancelotti to decide Benzema fate

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has publicly stated that it will be solely up to the manager, Carlo Ancelotti, as to whether or not the Frenchman Karim Benzema, who Wenger has been a fan of for so long, will be sold.

Today’s Evening Standard reports that Real Madrid have told Arsenal that the French international striker Karim Benzema will be made available for transfer in January.

Arsène Wenger unsuccessfully tried to sign Benzema in the summer but new Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti – already under pressure following a patchy start to the new season – is reported to have lost faith in Benzema and wishes to replace him with Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.
