While Arsenal may not have been too busy buying in the transfer market, the annual exodus of players from the club has continued yet again this summer. However, fortunately, so far it is only the fringe players the club are getting off the wage bill.

Djourou choosing Hamburg over Hannover

Having been offered deals at two Bundesliga clubs, Hamburg and Hannover, Johann Djourou it appears has favoured a move to Hamburg, shunning a return to Hannover, where he spent the second half of last season on loan.

Just days after we believed that the Gonzalo Higuain transfer to Arsenal was on the verge of being completed, a new twist has arose.

Ancelotti’s appointment as manager was likely to speed up the deal, but it is believed, according to reports in the Times, that Higuain could now be used as bait to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur.

Higuain to Spurs?

As well as the Times, Spanish newspaper AS believe Real will offer Spurs 60 million euros plus Higuain and Fabio Coentrao to secure the services of Bale.

The appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the new Real Madrid manager should speed up the proposed transfer of Gonzalo Higuain to Arsenal, with the Argentine striker expected to join within the next few days.

The 25-year-old was always expected to leave the Bernabeu this summer but the main hitch in any deal was that no manager was in place to sanction the transfer.

No more issues?

Now that this has been resolved, he should join the Gunners for a reported £22 million fee.

If the rumours are to be believed then Arsene Wenger’s pursuit of a striker is nearing its long sought after conclusion with Gonzalo Higuain seemingly Emirates-bound.

Arsenal are also looking at the options available to them to strengthen the defensive area of the team, with today’s stories focussed on the centre backs on Wenger’s radar.

No Bids for Williams

Firstly, the stories of Ashley Williams are growing in number and the Swansea captain is eager for a move away from the Capital One Cup champions.
