Wenger to stay put on a one year deal

Arsenal’s woes continued over the weekend after they a suffered 3-1 defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns and following the clash, the under pressure Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger hinted at his departure from the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season by stating that his future has already been decided.

In surprise reports from the Daily Express though, it has been claimed that Wenger is set to continue in his role into next season but will only sign a one year deal rather than the proposed two year contract put on the table by the club hierarchy.

Arsenal join Ross Barkley chase

Ross Barkley has been in sensational form for Everton during the current campaign but the midfielder’s long term future with the Toffees is in real doubt at the moment due to the fact that he has not yet signed an extension to his deal at Goodison Park which expires in 2018.

Given Barkley’s contractual situation, a host of clubs have understandably been monitoring his situation and the Daily Mirror have claimed that Arsenal have joined the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in the race to sign the 23-year-old England international.

Alexis Sanchez likely to miss Chile World Cup qualification matches

Arsenal endured a terrible 3-1 defeat against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and to make matters worse, star man Alexis Sanchez had to be forced off late into the game after being at the receiving end of a heavy challenge.

Arsene Wenger provided an update to Sanchez’s fitness and revealed that the 28-year-old has picked up a big blow on his ankle and could now well be ruled out of Chile’s international round of fixtures over the next fortnight.

Wenger said after the game, “If the ligament is damaged, he will not play. It was a bad tackle. His ankle is in an absolutely terrible state. He should not have played in the second half but he insisted that he wanted to come out.

“In the first half he was the one who created many chances, made dangerous situations, and in the second half you could see that he couldn't anymore. In the end we had to take him off. He should not even have played in the second half.”

Arsenal monitor Monaco stars closely

Arsenal have endured another disappointing campaign in the Premier League this season and whether or not Arsene Wenger remains in charge of the club in the coming years, the Gunners will surely have to strengthen their squad during the summer in order to mount a more genuine title bid next season.

Now the North London side already seem to have begun their recruitment plans for the summer as the Daily Mail have revealed that club scout Gilles Grimandi was present at the Stade Louis II during Monaco’s Champions League Round of 16 second leg clash against Manchester City on Wednesday.

The report does not clarify as to which specific player Grimandi had been scouting but it is believed that the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Benjamin Mendy, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Fabinho were all under consideration.

Arsenal receive boost in Allegri chase

It is very unclear as to whether Arsene Wenger will depart from his role as manager of Arsenal at the end of the season but if indeed he does, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has been touted as one of the Gunners’ main targets.

Now in a huge boost to Arsenal’s hopes of signing Allegri, the Italian manager’s respected mentor, Giovanni Galeone, has urged the 49-year-old to leave the comforts of Juventus and challenge himself at the Emirates Stadium next season.

Galeone told II Messaggero (via the Metro), “I do not know if his cycle with Juventus is over but I told him: ‘After winning so much, it’s time so say enough!’ It’s not easy to leave Juventus but I hope he will go abroad. I think he’d do better in England than in Spain.

“[Arsenal are] a historic club. It will depend on Wenger’s decision. Massimiliano could build an exciting, fun team keeping with tradition there. Arsenal have players that could adapt to his style. It could be [a good fit].”

Arsenal to make £8.7 million offer for La Liga defender

The central defensive position has been one of the problem areas for Arsenal during the current campaign and it does look very likely that the Gunners will be recruiting the services of a new centre-back next summer.

A host of names have been linked with a transfer to Arsenal over the past few weeks and now according to reports from Spanish publication Marca (via the Daily Mirror), the North London side are eyeing up a swoop for Eibar defender Florian Lejeune to strengthen their backline.

Lejeune has impressed for the Spanish minnows this season since joining from Manchester City over the summer and it has been reported that Arsenal are set to place a bid of around £8.7 million in an attempt to sign the 25-year-old next season.

Arsenal want Everton midfielder

Arsenal spent around £35 million to acquire the services of Granit Xhaka over the summer but it has to be said that the Swiss international has not been able to justify such a huge price tag since his arrival to the Emirates Stadium.

While Xhaka is a talented player, his rash tackling has been a real cause for concern and it is believed that Arsenal will look to sign another defensive midfielder as an alternative to the ex-Borussia Monchengladbach star for next season.

In surprise reports from the Sun, revelations have now been made that Arsenal are currently considering a move for Everton man Idrissa Gueye.

Gueye has impressed for Everton this season after joining from Championship side Aston Villa and the report states that Arsenal have identified the 27-year-old as the ideal player to add power to the Gunners’ midfield, which has struggled this season.
