Even though the January transfer window ended largely as an anti-climax to most people, the murmurings surrounding  the deals that did go ahead continues to rumble on, as well as speculation as to what could have happened in the final week of the window – and what we can expect in the summer.

One of the most bizarre transfers of the window – and of Arsene Wenger’s reign at Arsenal – has been the main spark of debate since the window slammed shut on Friday night.

And since then, yet more details have come out to support the evidence that Wenger could be going a bit senile, with the deadline day signing of injured Spartak Moscow benchwarmer Kim Kallstrom.

It is safe to say the signing of Kim Källström has certainly not been met with the same celebrations which Mesut Özil’s transfer received last summer.

To add to the obvious disparagement many rivals fans have aimed at Arsenal over this signing we have some interesting comments from Russian fans on our new signing.

Benchwarmer

Unfortunately they don’t exactly make pretty reading. Fans of the Russian club Spartak Moscow commented on the confirmation that Källström had moved to London.

Arsène Wenger has welcomed new Arsenal signing Kim Källström to the club, whilst the midfielder has revealed his pleasure at joining the club.

Källström’s move to the Emirates has dominated most of the talk surrounding Arsenal on transfer deadline day.

Wenger praises the Swede

Firstly manager Wenger spoke to the official Arsenal site to welcome the Swedish international to the club.

Wenger said: “Kim Källström is a hugely-experienced player. He is a midfielder with proven quality at both club and international level. We welcome Kim to Arsenal.”

Kim Källström has officially signed his loan contract with Arsenal and we believe that concludes the transfer dealings at the Emirates today.

The Swede was at the Arsenal training ground this afternoon and completed his medical early this evening.

An experienced international, he now agreed personal terms with the Gunners and joins on a loan-deal until the end of the season.

Lyon success

The 31-year-old is best known for his time at Lyon in France where he played an integral part in their successful era during the mid 2000’s.

He won two Ligue 1 titles with Lyon, in addition to triumphs in the Coupe de France and was a mainstay in their midfield between 2006 and 2012.

Jeremy Wilson of the Daily Telegraph believes Arsenal are only going to sign Kim Kallstrom in the final day of the January transfer window, putting to bed any stories linking Miroslav Klose with an Emirates move.

There is still hope that Arsène Wenger can spring a ‘Mesut Özil’ type surprise but it seems increasingly unlikely.

Targets deemed too expensive

Goal.com’s Wayne Veysey did state earlier that Wenger was targeting Blaise Matuidi and Morgan Schneiderlin but predictably, the duo were “deemed too expensive” and so Kallstrom is the final option.
