This afternoon brings the news of a 22 year old player, who was brought through the academy, leaving the Arsenal whilst a 31 year old from Spartak Moscow is seemingly on his way in. Will the real Arsene Wenger please stand up?

The news of Emmanuel Frimpong leaving the club to join Barnsley on a permanent deal does not come as a surprise as reports earlier this month claimed the player would be moving on.

Breaking into the first team squad in the 2011-12 season it seemed Frimpong was a great talent set for successful future at the club but injuries and attitude saw his progress halt and he really has been nowhere near the first team this year.

Kim Kallstrom

At a time where the midfield is alarmingly thin, it seemed a chance for Frimpong to get his way in. However, Arsene Wenger in this instance has seemingly decided to turn to veteran midfielder Kim Kallstrom.

It is fair to say nobody saw this transfer coming and it is not the ‘surprise’ in the same sense that Mesut Ozil was on the last day of the previous transfer window. The deal for Kallstrom will be a loan move and not set Arsenal back in terms of finance.

Despite not being the marquee signing most Arsenal fans are craving, Kallstrom is an experienced international with over 100 caps for Sweden winning 2 league titles with Lyon where he spent 6 seasons. He will fit in to Arsenal’s style of football and is a needed body in midfield.

Kallstrom is said to be in London this afternoon for a medical and to agree personal terms.

Too Klose to Call

One more possible signing is of the German striker Miroslav Klose. Arsenal fans will be wondering if Arsene Wenger has been looking at a scout report from 2004 and not 2014! At the ripe age of 35 this again was not the move Gunners fans were expecting.

It seems unlikely this move will come to fruition but yet again it seems a loan move would be the only way Arsenal would be interested in being involved with this deal.

Yesterday, some bookmakers had stopped taking bets on Arsenal signing wonder kid Julian Draxler but today that move is seemingly dead in the water.

Wait and See

It seems as if Arsenal will only be completing one piece of business this deadline day and that is for a midfielder. However, Arsene Wenger has always said if something ‘special’ becomes available he will look to do it.

Arsenal fans will be hoping he has been hiding something from everyone.
