Arsenal could be set to pull off a remarkable transfer with reports suggest the Gunners have made a £51 million bid for Edinson Cavani.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward is being eyed up by Arsene Wenger as the forward to lead their challenge for glory on a number of fronts in the 2014/15 season.

If di Maria moves to PSG…

The Daily Express reported that esteemed Spanish journalist Kike Marin believes the Gunners could capture the signature of the Uruguay forward should PSG sign Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been linked with the former Napoli star but Wenger is keen to sign the forward so much he has apparently already made a record transfer bid for him.

The Metro back up claims by the Express and also report that Cavani’s agent has been ramping up speculation by claim Wenger approaching his client previously about a move.

Wenger a huge fan of Cavani

Metro also confirm that the Arsenal manager is a huge fan of the PSG ace and would love to bring him to the Emirates this summer.

However, some level headedness is required when looking at whether this deal could occur or not.

Arsenal have openly been targeting a midfielder or defender over the past week and Wenger has previously stated he only wants to make one more signing.

Not a logical move…

It wouldn’t make much sense for the club to go out and buy another attacking option, especially for £51 million when it is clear that the defence needs reinforcing, not the front line.

Meanwhile, this deal hinges of di Maria’s future and thus far talks between Real Madrid and PSG haven’t been too encouraging so this is another transfer where one move needs to happen for another to occur.

Although a transfer for Cavani sounds exciting and he would most likely be an excellent player for the Gunners and put fear into opposition defences, it just doesn’t appear logical.

With a defender a priority and Wenger having already splashed lots of cash this summer, why would he go out and buy a forward for £51 million?

With a few weeks until the closing of the transfer window, this is certainly a move to keep an eye on but don’t get too excited about seeing Cavani in an Arsenal shirt just yet.
