In the wake of Arsenal’s current striker crisis, Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his confidence that star man Marco Reus will sign a new contract with the Bundesliga club.

Frontman Olivier Giroud will face up to 3 months on the sidelines thanks to what looks to be an ankle injury sustained when Everton’s Sylvain Distin cannoned the ball off the striker’s standing leg in the dying moments of our 2-2 draw at Goodison.

Striker Shortage

And while Yaya Sanogo remains in the centre-forward position, many would be quick to say he is not at the level the Gunners need to mount a title challenge. Alexis Sanchez failed to impress in the role at the weekend, along with Joel Campbell who both prefer a wider berth.

Wenger’s options seem limited up front, and it is not as if he has not had time to weigh up his options if he is to make a move before September 1st. Last season’s downfall was largely down to the lack of firepower aside from Giroud, who tired towards the thick end of the campaign.

Staying Put

Reus himself has been a long term target of Arsenal, along with the rest of Europe’s elite, who have tried their hardest to tempt the Germany international – famed for his loyalty to Borussia – away from the Bundesliga runners up.

Manchester United in particular failed in their attempt to land the 25-year-old, offering him huge wages in return for his services, along with interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona. And Reus has toyed with his potential suitors by failing to sign a new contract with the Signal Iduna side.

His current contract is believed to contain a £28million buyout clause, a somewhat respectable fee for the 2014 Dortmund Player of the Year.

However his boss remains confident that the player he recently made captain will pledge his future to the club:

‘I have a very good feeling about the Marco Reus situation,’ he told German newspaper Bild.

‘He will continue to play for Dortmund for a long time.’

Other options on Arsene Wenger’s supposed wishlist include QPR’s Loic Remy, Swansea’s Wilfried Bony and Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck having missed out on Mario Balotelli.

The Fact that Marco Reus is an Attacking Midfielder doesn't bother any of you?

Terry, the way you think when you talk of a line up is not what happens to the team when games are being played, when you chose your line-up, you think the team will be a winning team, which is not correct. You need to build the combination first before you start talking about line up. This is something we should learn, what happens at training ground, only the coach knows much better. So lets support our coach becasue he is a professional coach.

It has become a trend for players to run their contract down to the last year which forces the clubs to offer seriously improved contracts to keep them because they know the following season they are off for nothing.
If the clubs doesn't improve the contract significantly then they move on for a massive wage packet elsewhere because they don't cost the new club anything!
Reus isn't in that position yet but Dortmund don't want to let it get to that stage.
The power is now firmly with the players despite the contracts they sign, hence City giving a huge contract to Kompany.
Reus however is exactly what Arsenal need and if Wenger could prise him away then he should grab the chance with both hands as he is an upgrade to Podolski and has speed that we need on the flank.
A front 4 of Reus, Sanches, Ozil and Walcott looks pretty good to me With possibly Ramsey and Carvalho sitting in behind......Mmmmm dream on!

Last season Wenger was supposed to get a player who could help Arsenal win the epl.Instead he got a crock.Don't be surprised with the doubts about Giroud,he could make another blunder.Oh I forgot the board are beholden to him blah blah.
Hopefully he will plug the gaps in the md and defence. His record against the top teams these last five years is appalling.Don't be surprised once he leaves the new guy will get the gunners to play to win and reduce the passing frenzy. He might even better Wenger' record against the top clubs.
