With Wenger picking an experimental line-up for the match in Istanbul, forward Joel Campbell was handed a rare start on the right-hand side of the attack and showed moments of promise, almost grabbing a goal of his own in the first-half after breaking through the Galatasaray defence, only to be denied by a fine save from goalkeeper Sinan Bolat.

Not showing any disappointment over how little he’s played this season (just one start in the Capital One Cup and five brief cameos as a sub), he said,

Today was a chance for those who haven’t played much, like me! I think we made the most of it in the best way, by winning in such a difficult scenario.”

I’m confident that I’m developing as a player and I’ll work step by step and work for my chance. I’m happy here, I’m learning every day and hopefully my chance will come.”

Campbell has attracted interest from a number of European and Premier League sides in recent months, however Wenger insists the 22-year-old is part of his plans.

Campbell will stay with us,” the Frenchman said when asked on the latest rumours surrounding the youngster.

However, It needs to be seen how much playing time Wenger will give him. The Frenchman clearly not yet convinced that the 22-year-old is ready for a sizeable role in the team, despite his starring World Cup displays this past summer.

Keep Calm Joel, Arsene Knows!

Funny reading comments suggesting Campbell would have played more if he were french etc. Campbell and Sanogo do not play the same role. Poldi is a striker. Campbell plays on the right flank and is not a top 9, so it baffles me when comments are made by people who don't understand the roles of the players in question. I think it's just an opportunity to criticise Wenger at any turn.

Campbell has to be a Frenchman first to dislodge Sanogo a french from the waning Wenger. take offers seriously Campa. Your case is not about performance either, its on nationality. to me you are better than half the first team choices, always slotted ahead of you and always disappointing so far this season

Quoting Ben:
Glad we put in a good performance yesterday, however not to want to turn it into a negative, but it does again raise the question why we haven't utilised Podolski or Campbell this season, when the likes of Cazorla and Sanogo have performed poorly for most of the past year, and Ox has had a couple of poor runs of form where he could have benefited from a break

We looked so much more fluid in attack with Podolski and Campbell flanking a CF. They should be given more opportunities, since it looks like Walcott's impact this season will be limited, and we cannot rely on Alexis Sanchez carrying our attack the whole season.

Yes, there are areas of improvement for Joel Campbell (albeit nowhere near as many as Sanogo who's been given numerous chances when fit), but the same can be said for virtually all our attacking options, other than Alexis Sanchez.

My friend it must be noted that Galatasary are a very fragile team at the back, they have a very poor defense, Starting Poldo and Campbell against any PL side is a huge risk ! as you must have seen, Poldi loses his stamina under 60 minutes that is a major reason Wenger does not start him.
Campbell is a youngster an i doubt Wenger allow him big starts. He is supposed to be the one for the future, not present

Please, Wenger give Campbell more games he's better than Sanogo.
