Arsenal are apparently preparing a £45 million bid for Liverpool star Raheem Sterling.

Influential twitter user @DeanLDN22, who has a huge following on the social network site, believes the England international is looking for a move back to his roots.

The 20-year-old grew up in London and was part of Queens Park Rangers youth team until four years ago when he was prized away to Anfield.

Talks between Arsenal and Liverpool underway

@DeanLDN22 tweeted: “Have been told Arsenal are preparing a £45m bid for Sterling. Player wants to move back to London in the summer. Talks held #afc #lfc.”

Although it could be pure gospel and rumour, there could be some foundation to the transfer link.

Sterling is currently in talks with his current club over a new contract, but is set to be unhappy with the terms Liverpool have offered him.

The Reds are willing to give the England international a £40,000-a-week payrise, taking his weekly wage up to £70,000.

No agreement forthcoming

But the Daily Telegraph believe the Anfield club are “nowhere near any agreement” with Sterling and his advisors.

European giants Paris-Saint Germain and Real Madrid have registered an interest in the versatile attacker, but it has always been believed he will remain on Merseyside.

However, following Liverpool’s recent Champions League exit and their substandard season – it has been pondered recently whether he could leave the club.

Gunners have been inconsistent this campaign

A move to the Emirates would offer him a chance to return to London, but not a certain Champions League position as the Gunners have struggled this season.

Although this could all be pure classic rubbish transfer speculation, it wouldn’t be out of the question that Sterling could join Arsenal.

No chance. I'd be surprised if he ended up leaving Liverpool. Joining Real Madrid would be very harmful to his career, with Ronaldo, Benzema, Bale, James, Isco and Jese occupying the attacking positions, and all likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order.

I doubt there's even genuine interest from Real. It's all just a ploy to get the absolute maximum contract from Liverpool, which they will offer, as they'd be devastated to lose him.

He was fantastic in the second half of last season, but needs to prove he can play to that standard long term (or will he be another Ben Arfa?) paying that kind of fee for a player unproven over more than a few months or at the top level (Champions League/International ) when there are areas much more in need of improvement would be ridiculous.

I honestly prefer Chamberlain and Walcott, in any case.

I don,t think sterling will leave Liverpool , i think hes rubbish, any way we have the fastest player in the premier league Walcott coming back and Alex chaimberlain, and for 45 million no way in hell we will pay that much

Would suit todays Arsenal to a tee. Im sure Wenger would love to pair him with his own British lads but i dont see it happening. The most i see our club offering would be maybe 28 mil and i believe Liverpool would want something similar to the fee mentioned. However if Liverpool where honest with themselves they would realise that 28 mil is fair... after all they mentioned how we should have thrown Walcott in with the Suarez offer and that meant Walcott being worth around the 20 mil mark.

45 million is only about 2/3 or 3/4 of what the scousers would want for him, and about double what we'd be willing to pay.
No chance.

What a load of rubbish he really is not that good half of last season and as per normal he is close to world class only in england can we do this he needs at least a couple more big seasons before being worth near 45 million and we have walcott and Gnabry among others so no thanks
