Arsenal have been keeping tabs on a few top-class centre-forwards, but for varied reasons, their pursuit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Karim Benzema and Jackson Martinez did not come to fruition.

They were consequently tipped in to settle for a less prolific striker in Fernando Llorente, but Arsene Wenger seems to have other ideas.

Jose Callejon, since finding his escape route out of Estadio Bernabeu, has become an instrumental fixture in the Napoli lineup and can be expected to decide on his future with the Italian club in the days to come.

Chelsea are believed to be chasing his signature for some time now, but strong media suggestions claim that the Emirates Stadium club may have already tabled an offer for the Spanish international.

The London clubs are set to go head-to-head in the Community Shield, but it turns out that they will also be forced to enter a bidding war for the former Real Madrid outcast.

Theo Walcott has time and again expressed his desire to spearhead the lineup and given the rate at which he converts the chances, his manager may well give him a run as the centre-forward, which highlights the need for a winger replacement.

Jose Callejon, valued at £22million, could fit the bill given his heroics with Napoli as of late and even though he does not come close to be called a marquee signing, his capture could well turn out to be the final piece of the puzzle.

Go out and get a striker they say like it's so simple.. hmmm!! I think it's fair to say Wenger wants to achieve great things with this team more than anyone commenting on here , he's been getting stick for his decisions etc for years , he's only human (suprisingly for some) and therefore must get bored of hearing people trying to dictate to him how to do his job. Ultimately enjoy these last couple years with him because there's a good chances are when he's gone most people will be wishing for him back

Some of u guys do talk a lot of nonsense. Wenger has never mention buying any of them players mentions. It's all media or players agents talking up a transfer. The board and real fans trust the manager so if your not going to then I suggest u go and support a different team. In arsene we trust.

This is what Wenger does to make the fans think he's in the market when he has no intention of buying anyone. Benzema is no better then giroud. In fact Walcotts better then both of them and Wenger knows it. We had the best striker in England (Afobe) and he sold him so he doesnt embarrass Giroud because he is biased when it comes to french players

That's correct, arsene wenger is just nt taking things serious, we have the money,we have the players but to compete for titles we need supplements. This how he is going to delay till the best players slips off his hands.

If we buy a striker, it needs to be someone in the Suarez/Agüero class. Benzema isn't much of an upgrade on Giroud & recently went 14 months without scoring an international goal!!! Not sure Aubameyang or Martinez would have been the solution.

We breed every year due to the lack of world class strikers costing us the league and UEFA. it pains alot Wenger.

Just sign a world class striker. This is getting silly again. We all know what we need to be competitive and for some strange reason we seem to ignore it every year. The team will be strong on all fronts if we get a world class striker to share the goal scoring burden heaped on Giroud and we also need a beast of a DM who may also be able to offer cover at CB. Formula to the title
