You may have read this a million times on the media, but allow Arsenal Latest to remind you (again) of the fact that the Gunners were the only side in top five European leagues not to have signed an outfield player this summer, but Arsene Wenger unsurprisingly does not seem to feel any remorse as he justified his stance, while speaking to the press ahead of Stoke clash.

The Frenchman boasted that he had made more than 300 transfers in his three-decade long managerial career and hinted that he knew exactly what he was up to when he decided to be empty-handed (minus Petr Cech, of course) when the transfer window slammed shut. The veteran manager appeared to win over his harshest critics when he announced that he would never resort to buying just for the sake of it.

“I have made more than 300 transfers and every time it’s a decision to make. The solutions we had were not convincing at all. In the end you do not buy to give one hope, you want to buy because the players who come in can help your squad to be stronger. Buying and selling is one way to strengthen your team, but that’s not the only way.”

The 64-year-old was accused of lying by the British media over his update on the injury sustained by Danny Welbeck, but he laughed off the claims admitting his surprise. He even claimed that the medical staff had kept him ignorant of the setback.

First of all I am surprised that people accused me of lying when I was in the press conference on Friday morning, [at that point] I did not know Welbeck had a bad setback. I did not lie to you; I gave you the information I had.”

Arsenal have had only one goal-scorer in the Premier League this season and are widely censured for not being prolific in front of the goal, despite creating the most number of chances in English top-flight. Arsene Wenger, however; seemed rather calm as he stated that his players would put on their scoring boots shortly.

“We have created the chances and that’s what we want to continue to do. It is about the efficiency and the quality of our game, we can score goals and I am not worried about that. We have Alexis, we have Giroud and we have Walcott. It is a massive opportunity for them of course.”

Arsenal currently sit sixth, level on points with Manchester United and are five points behind leaders Manchester City, who still maintain their hundred percent win record. The Gunners are expected to bounce back stronger after the international break.
