Arsene Wenger has gone on to confirm that Arsenal are planning to hand midfielder Jack Wilshere a new contract in January.

Jack Wilshere made a surprise loan move from Arsenal to Bournemouth this summer and it has to be said that the midfielder has managed to enjoy a fruitful time at the Vitality Stadium so far following two injury ravaged campaigns at the Emirates Stadium.

While Arsenal fans would surely have been pleased to see Wilshere getting regular action on the pitch under his belt, the England international has gone on to make some worrying admissions in recent times.

Wilshere has made it clear that he will consider leaving Arsenal next season and with the 24-year-old set to enter the final year of his deal next season, there is a possibility that the Gunners could end up losing the former wonderkid.

Despite Wilshere’s comments though, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger seems relaxed regarding the long term future of his protégé and has now stated that the club will discuss a new contract with the ex-Bolton Wanderers man in January.

Wenger was quoted saying by Sky Sports ahead of the clash against Bournemouth, "Of course. Ideally [it will be addressed before next summer]. We have to plan around the new year.

“I ask every week how did he play but I haven't spoken to him. I leave him to talk to his manager. When I can watch him, I do watch him.”

Wilshere to extend stay at Arsenal?

The Arsenal boss then went on to speak regarding his happiness at Wilshere managing regular first team football this season and believes that the loan move to Bournemouth has done in a world of good.

He continued, "I am happy that he is developing well. It was a good decision for him to go to get regular football. He is getting stronger every week and that is exactly what he needed. When a player like Jack is in top form, you miss him."

It is clear to see that Wilshere is loved at Arsenal and convincing the midfielder to stay put should be one of the top priorities for the Gunners hierarchy this winter.
