Premier League giants Arsenal have also entered the race to secure the services of Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, according to reports from the Daily Express.

Arsenal have slipped up in their Premier League title pursuit in recent times and as of now, the Gunners currently find themselves a sizeable 12 points off of leaders Chelsea.

Despite the whopping points difference though, Arsenal are unlikely to give up on their aspirations of lifting the English crown as of yet and in order to boost his side’s chances, manager Arsene Wenger is believed to be looking to strengthen his squad during the current January transfer window.

A number of attacking players have been linked with a move to Arsenal recently but now in surprise reports from the Daily Express, revelations can be made that the Gunners are currently eyeing up a move for Sevilla defensive midfielder Steven N’Zonzi.

N’Zonzi has managed to earn a reputation as one of the best holding midfielders in Europe since making a move to Sevilla last season and the Frenchman is currently being courted by a host of top clubs following his exploits with the Andalusians.

Chelsea and Juventus have been mentioned as the two genuinely interested parties in N’Zonzi but with the Italian giants unwilling to match the midfielder’s £25 million asking price, the current Premier League leaders are being seen as favourites to sign the ex-Blackburn Rovers man.

Arsenal and Chelsea battling it out to sign N'Zonzi

It seems like Chelsea still have a lot of work to do in order to sign N’Zonzi though as even Arsenal have allegedly entered the race to sign the 28-year-old in January.

Reports from the Express have stated that Arsenal are currently considering making a move for N’Zonzi and that the North London giants have already placed enquiries regarding the availability of the holding midfielder.

The links certainly come as a bit of a surprise as while N’Zonzi is a very good player, Arsenal perhaps do not need to sign another defensive minded midfielder due to the plethora of options already available to Wenger at the moment.
