Sources close to Barcelona indicate that Arsenal's pursuit of David Villa may be futile.

According to popular La Liga journalist Guillem Balague, Barcelona will not accept any bid for David Villa in the January transfer window, but they will allow him to leave in the summer, as they can replace him by moving their deal for Neymar forward a year.

Arsene Wenger rang Villa recently in an attempt to talk him round, but got the impression that the Spaniard wanted to stay until the end of the season and see what his situation is like then.

Villa has also been speaking to an Arsenal player for a few weeks about life in London and under Wenger, but it is unknown whether this is a recent development and may have changed his mind.

What we do know is that Villa would be happy to move to Arsenal, though he may wait until after January and the imminent birth of his child before joining up with the squad.

However, Barcelona do not want to lose him due to the lack of replacements available, and Villa is happy to wait until the summer to move, by which time Arsenal may not want to bring him in so urgently.

If Villa does move, his wages, often publicised as an issue, will not be so, as the striker is on around 110k a week, an amount Arsenal are willing to pay.

Wenger called Villa? How is he allowed to do that?

Now that indications are clear that David Villa is not likely to come to Arsenal, we hope Arsene Wenger will look elsewhere for a better finisher because the lack of a classical striker kills all the moves our midfielders make. We haven't forgotten all the promises made to us when we had a poor run of form. Let Wenger know that such a moment is likely to come around in the near future and then it may be too late to remedy the situation. Now is the time to prepare for eventuality. A close look at Tottenham and Everton will tell any reasonable person that those two teams are doing better than Arsenal, yet they're busy in the market. Wenger should not bring us down. We don't want to be laughed at by fans of rival clubs.

Got a lot of respect for GB, but he did say that Sneijder would be a MU player a couple of transfer windows ago, so not everything he says is always true.

The Arsenal player policy has always been - No player over 30.
This must have changed through desperation? Jack had a good game today against the Welsh Dragons. Great to see a player driving forward with the ball - rather than passing it square.

Due to lack of replacements? They have Pedro, Tello, Cuenca, Sanchez and Indiesta who can and do play in his position. He's hardly made any starts. I can't se us getting him in the summer.

David will be fast approaching 32 in August, if he's not coming this January, then we may as well forget it. Still cannot work out why we didn't go for Ba, we always seem to take the unconventional route. At time I wonder if Arsenal's difficulties are born out of personal Ego's? We never do what at times seem so Obvious!
