Arsene Wenger gave a press conference, and the newspapers saw fit to link us with approximately half of all footballers in the world.

Good practise for the summer, during which we’ll be linked with the remaining half, as well as a number of especially skilled rugby players.

Nothing to lose

Arsene was speaking ahead of the second leg against Bayern on Wednesday night, and was in a defiant mood (as is to be expected). He insists Arsenal still have a chance to quality, despite their 3-1 deficit, which includes 3 away goals.

It’s time for an exciting Premier League weekend, where Arsenal play.....It’s almost as bad as an international break, though at least like this you can laugh at various other sides and not have to worry about Abou Diaby being forced to play 120 minutes of a game, including a whole half hour by himself before the game, carrying rocks with his legs.

PSG come a knockin’

Arsene Wenger has  been linked ad infinitum with PSG this season, with there being talk that the French club will try and dislodge him this summer. Of course, their offer of Middle Eastern riches may not be a deal-maker soon, if talk about Arab consortiums has any basis in fact.

Thursdays are normally the day that everybody starts discussing Arsenal’s upcoming weekend fixture, but thanks to Everton’s FA Cup progress there isn’t one. Which, after the debacle of recent weeks, is almost a relief. Instead of worrying, we can sit back and ‘enjoy’ the other fixtures, by which I mean pray Chelsea and Spurs somehow implode, surrendering all their points to Arsenal. Even if that happened we’d still finish third.

There were some spectacularly amusing transfer rumours today, so I’ll deal with them, as that’s all that really happened.

Wednesday passed in a cloud of hilarity, as Manchester United sank into deeper and deeper trouble after their Champions League exit to Real Madrid. It may say a lot about the condition of Arsenal at the moment that one of the happier moments of the season comes from a rival team losing, but you take what you can get.

Getting the rubbish out of the way

Paper talk was empty rumours personified today, with the only notable link being to Real Madrid’s Raul Albiol, who is severely out of favour these days, with Pepe, Sergio Ramos and the incredible Raphael Varane keeping him out of the line-up. As Arsenal’s defence is the latest section of the side to cock up spectacularly, it’s not really surprising the major links are to defensive players.

The ensuing days after a defeat are always a bit rubbish. The immediate reactions are done with, and everybody’s moaned out, usually within two hours of the match.

But after that calms down there’s still a bubbling current of what is best described as ‘meeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaa.....’-ness, a kind of general pall over what is said and reported, and with the defeat being to Them of all people, it’s somewhat worse than usual.

So it’s no suprise that the talk at the moment is centred around trying to identify exactly what the problem at Arsenal is. Everybody has their own opinion, and the figures of blame are many and varied.
