Arsenal 'star' (I'll explain why I say that later) Emmanuel Frimpong has joined recently-promoted Championship side Charlton Athletic on loan until January 1st.

This comes after he was linked with a return move to Wolves, where he was on loan last season, as well as Ipswich Town, currently under the management of former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy.

Will he be Dench?

Frimpong, it's safe to say, hasn't exactly made waves at Arsenal, at least on the pitch. Part of the side that won the FA Youth Cup, containing Jack Wilshere and Francis Coquelin to name a couple, Frimpong is best described as a poor relation of Wilshere, a midfield terrier with less creativity and a penchant for awful tackles.

Speaking after being somewhat vindicated by Arsenal's 5-2 derby victory at the weekend, Arsene Wenger believes his side can press on and be more consistent, having stuttered and started throughout the campaign.

He spoke in glowing (even more than usual) terms about the team, saying he believes 'there is something special about this team':

“We have shown quality, spirit and a lot of movement, and that is what we want from our team,” he told Arsenal Player.

“The result will help to rebuild belief completely again. There is something special in this team and I am happy that will come out when they play with complete confidence.

“I am confident [it will be a platform]. Let's be consistent. We will gain some belief and confidence from this result, and we will transfer that into our next game and show the same performance.”

thfcIn recent years, Arsenal have found it seemingly impossible to go a whole season without a couple of ‘blips’ or ‘breakdowns’.  Many observers feel that we are currently going through one of these damp patches, and for good reason.

A run of seven games, two wins (neither of which were particularly impressive) means that we go into the game against our old enemy suffering a dismal run of form.

However, the form-book can serve to cheer us up as well as depress us.  Spurs are currently on a two game losing streak and have lost three out of their last four premier league games.

This news is even more satisfying when we consider that during this time they were also kicked out of the league cup by Norwich in frankly hilarious circumstances.

A shorter international break this time, but Arsenal still had their fair share of players called up to their national teams. Fortunately, nobody was injured.

Tough return for Jack

Jack Wilshere made his England return, while Carl Jenkinson joined him as a second-half substitute for England's friendly with Sweden. Unfortunately, neither of them could do anything to prevent England losing 4-2 to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Wilshere was fouled almost routinely by the Swedes and picked up a booking for a 'foul' on Ibrahimovic. He seemed to feel no ill effect, however.

Wojciech Szczęsny (Ankle), Theo Walcott (Muscle) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Hip) are all poised for a return to the first team on Saturday. Players will undergo a late fitness test on Friday to determine whether they can make it or not.

Precaution taken with Sagna

Bacary Sagna will also have a test on Friday for “general fatigue” according to Arsenal, rather than for any kind of injury.

He has played 3 games in pretty quick succession, and is sensibly being monitored closely in case of any knock on effect after his lengthy spell on the sidelines.
