Wenger denies PSG speculation

The speculation surrounding Arsene Wenger’s future at Arsenal beyond the end of the current campaign is still dominating headlines and there have been reports claiming that if the 67-year-old were to leave the Emirates Stadium, he could be heading back to France by joining Paris Saint-Germain.

Wenger has now finally spoken regarding the rumors linking him with a switch to PSG and has denied the claims by stating that he has not even been in contact with the French champions. "There has not been any contact," he told SFR Sports when asked about PSG. "I formally deny that."

Wenger insists he is not retiring

Arsene Wenger’s long term future has been subject to much speculation over the past few weeks and if indeed the Frenchman leaves the Emirates Stadium, many feel that he will end up retiring from football management.

However, Wenger has gone on to quash reports that he will retire next summer and insisted that his interest in football has not faded away despite his advancing years.

The 67-year-old said, “I will not retire. Retiring is for young people. For old people retirement is dying. I still watch every football game. I find it interesting.

“Of course I’m as hungry. I carry a bit more pressure on my shoulders than 20 years ago but the hunger is exactly the same. When you see what the club was and what it is today – when I arrived we were seven people [members of staff], we are 700 today.

“I hate defeat. I can understand the fans that are unhappy with every defeat but the only way to have victory is to stick together with the fans and give absolutely everything until the end of the season, that’s all we can do.”

Arsene Wenger may be wanted out of Arsenal by a number of fans but there is no getting away from the fact that the Frenchman remains one of the best managers out there at the moment and a host of clubs would be interested in his services if he were to leave the Gunners at the end of the season.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain have widely been mentioned as the club with the biggest interest in acquiring the services of Wenger and the Daily Star have gone on to claim that the Parisians have already placed a one year contract on the table for the 67-year-old to consider, as they look to replace under fire manager Unai Emery next season.

Arsenal the only London team Sanchez will play for

Alexis Sanchez’s future at Arsenal remains in doubt at the moment due to his contractual situation and in recent reports to worry the Gunners’ faithful, claims had been made that the Chilean international would consider a move to rival club Chelsea if the Blues make an offer next summer.

However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dismissed such speculation by stating that Sanchez is perfectly happy at the Emirates Stadium at the moment and that the Gunners are the only London team he will play for.

Wenger addressed Sanchez’s future saying, "I think he's happy here. It's true we have not extended his contract yet but I hope he will stay at the club.

“I think you have to be cautious when people give interviews in their home countries because the interpretation is not always exactly what they wanted to say.

"But I don't see anything negative (in Sanchez's comments). He said he wants to win the championship, that's what everybody wants and I can understand that completely."
