Arsenal fans came into this January transfer window with hope that the club would spend big on an additional striker to provide protection for Olivier Giroud, especially after Theo Walcott was ruled out for the season.

However, thus far the only player Arsenal have really been linked to with any conviction is German international Julian Draxler.

The Schalke star, who has a release clause of £37 million this summer, looked like he could be heading to the Emirates this January after Arsenal reportedly offered a fee in a similar region to his summer release fee. However, this move now looks more likely to occur, if it does in fact happen, in the summer.

While Arsene Wenger has played down the suggestion of Arsenal signing the German youngster, Gunners legend Robert Pires spoke of his admiration for the player, giving the move his full backing.

“Whenever I see him play, I always think his style of play would be a perfect fit for Arsenal,” the Frenchman said.

“I can well imagine Draxler being used on the left, but also as number 9, he could really strengthen the team.

The deal is apparently unlikely to happen this window, but in the summer, as German newspaper Bild have reported that Draxler believes that his sale would prove to be extremely costly to Schalke during the season, meaning it would take an offer in excess of £45 million for the German outfit to consider.

Draxler is a fantastic talent and would without doubt improve Arsenal’s squad and strengthen our title push; however, even if he is signed in summer, it will be worth the wait.

I think he is always full of surprises, let him surprise us this time with the German International Julian Draxler to save us from this trophy drought

I am getting pissed off with Arsene Wenger's attitude in the transfer window. He is always inconsistent when it comes to buying big time players. I don't Olivier Giroud is the kind of player we should be yearning for at this point in time. If we want a silver ware then let's go for those who can deliver and make fans proud.

The Gunners don't need another Midfielder. We need a damn striker. It's been, what, 6-8 years since the Henry days? Adebayor, v. Persie, Guroud--none have come close to delivering what was promised. Of course, with his move to Utd, it's apparent that v. Persie has the ability to find the frame when he's got a ton of opportunities & can just sit in the box the entire game, but we need a player with the ability to create like Henry did. We need that striker who can finish a cross or carry the ball in & create his own opportunities if need be. Add that to the attacking combo we have now & we can finally see some hardware back at the club again. We're in the hunt for 3 trophies, but we'll win exactly none if we stay status quo!

draxler isnt coming and we all know this we just choses not to believe what we already knew. Something has to happen as we are no longer top of the league

wenger you should buy world class striker if you want your team to continue in its current tempo! I hope you will buy Draxler in this January transfer window end

Arsenal fans are the most stupid ones. We keep believin to the ***ing ***s ( wenger gazidis), which should pack bags and go. Fans should go there and get the rid of them out, they dont desreve us.

Getting a little pissed off with this story. One minute we are buying him then we're not whilst Utd and Chelsea both strengthen. We all know and thought we would buy a striker and that hasn't happened and if we don't buy Draxler now we will lose out to other teams like Psg, Chelski and City or even Utd. I don't know why if we want. Player just offer what he's up for and stop penny pinching. We lost Players before because of it. I think if we don't buy big now we will not win league. Or anything else yet again. An injury to Giroud and that's it were stuffed. All this mone we have and not spending it. Come in Wenger give the supporters what we want and I'm sure we will win something.

Negative media smear campaign/propaganda against the Gunners should not be entertained by any Arsenal Family Member across the world. Even thought we may become public enemy number one, we will always uphold the Gunners' Tradition of clean football.
