The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Arsène Wenger may be mulling over a January bid to bring West Bromwich Albion’s England Under 21 star Saido Berahino to the Emirates.

The 20-year-old striker, who was born in Burundi, has caught the eye with his recent performances.

He scored a hat trick on his WBA debut against Newport County in the Capital One Cup, came off the bench to hit the winner in the Baggies’ victory over Manchester United in September, and has netted twice in three outings for the national Under 21 side.

Ironically Berahino started his first Premier League game for West Brom in last weekend’s draw with the Gunners.

Reports in today’s Daily Mirror and Daily Mail suggest that Arsène Wenger is seeking to bring the out-of-favour Juventus striker Fernando Llorente to the Emirates in the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old has earned 22 Spanish caps, scoring seven goals in the process, but his summer move from Athletic Bilbao to Serie A has proven frustrating to date.

He has appeared just four times for the Turin side to date and, having lost his place in the Spain squad, knows he needs first team football if he is to remain in Spain coach Vicente del Bosque’s thoughts ahead of next summer’s World Cup Finals in Brazil.

Man of the moment Mesut Özil has been talking about his arrival at Arsenal and move to England on the eve of what is expected to be the day the 24-year-old wins his 50th German cap in Friday night’s World Cup qualifier against Ireland.

Özil joined from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day for a club record £42.5 million and seems to have fitted straight in to life in London, already scoring one league goal and setting up three more for his new teammates.

Speaking at today’s Germany press conference, Özil said:

Arsene Wenger is set to complete the signing of Bristol Rovers 18-year-old goalkeeper Matt Macey.

The League Two strugglers Rovers are resigned to losing their whizkid as Macey has had talks with Arsenal and Everton on-going since the summer transfer window.

Having already trialled with the Gunners U21 side, Macey looks a cert to join the ranks as back-up after the signing of Emiliano Viviano from Palermo in the transfer window.

Laurent Koscielny picked up a calf injury yesterday during a France training session, and although the extend of the injury is unknown, the Arsenal defender is expected to miss Les Blues next two World Cup 2014 qualifiers.

French national team manager Didier Deschamps called up Kurt Zouma to replace Koscielny to confirm the news that the player will be out for week, at least.

Big blow

It is a frustrating blow for Wenger and co as the French defender has virtually been an ever present alongside Per Mertesacker this season, missing just one game for his sending off in the opening game of the season.
