Arsenal are set to complete the club record signing of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid on a sensational last day of the transfer window.
Arsene Wenger has well and truly silenced the critics in a way that only the Frenchman can, by signing one of the world’s best midfielders just as it looked as if they would go throughout the whole window without spending a penny.
German talisman Ozil will join for around €50million and will be added to the long list of creative midfielders at the Emirates in what must be one of the League’s most impressive squads.

Manchester United spent the majority of their summer transfer window chasing after Cesc Fabregas – a player that they were never going to sign – while Arsenal casually strolled in to sign Mesut Ozil on transfer deadline day.
United had made a pathetic attempt to sign Ozil, along with the likes of PSG, Monaco and ourselves. However they seemingly gave up on the German, instead concentrating all their efforts on Atletico Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera.
Given David Moyes’ current situation, the signing of Ozil would have been perfect. A world renowned superstar to bolster their flimsy midfield, and ease the pressure on the manager’s shoulders after their 4 points from 9 since the season began.

Marca have completed a dramatic u-turn and claimed that Mesut Ozil will stay at Madrid.
Having reported that a €50million deal to bring the German to Arsenal was imminent, the Spanish newspaper who have renowned ties with Real then changed its mind claiming that Ozil would remain a Galactico after all.
It was thought that Gareth Bale’s world record transfer which was made official last night would trigger a Madrid clearout, however since AC Milan completed the transfer of Kaka from the Bernabeu this morning, the need for Ozil to be kicked out was lessened.

After being linked with Schalke playmaker Julian Draxler earlier in the transfer window, it now appears that the German could be back on Arsenal’s radar.
The German international has announced that he might be prepared to leave Schalke if the German side are prepared to sell.
However, while there is still interest being shown in Draxler, he does not seem to be a first choice target, as Arsenal look to tie up other deals first.

It seems unbelievable that a player who is arguably the best number 10 in the world, who is still only 24 years old, would want to sign for a club fighting for top four Champions League qualification every year.
However, in a World Cup year, and with the arrival of Isco and Gareth Bale in Madrid, it seems that Özil has dropped down the pecking order and will struggle to find first team football under Carlo Ancelotti.
The Mirror believes Wenger is happy to sign Özil on loan if the permanent deal can’t be agreed, as the German has expressed a desire to remain at the Bernabeu recently.
