It’s an extremely quiet day, apart from the noise the neighbours are making. Today we’ve heard all sorts about gaps being closed, and a power shift. Standard stuff for a North London Derby, but it’s a little different this time. Instead of derision, we’re getting some quiet murmurs of agreement from the Gooner camp. It’s a slightly worrying trend. Normally anything Scott Parker says is totally ignored, but now he’s some sort of prophet. At least he’s admitted Spurs are ‘in the shadow of Arsenal’.

Same old, same old

It says a lot about the current situation at Arsenal that people are genuinely talking about how ‘a point will do’ at White Hart Lane. It’s almost as if Spurs have become something to be feared. It is of course an indication of our decline in challenging terms that games against the Spuds, who are currently enjoying one of their best periods in years (thanks largely to the dodgy dealings of Daniel Levy and co) are arguably the most important of the season.

That’s not a spiritual sequel to a C.S Lewis novel, that’s just a description of some of the news and rumours bubbling around in the world of Arsenal today. As the shadow of the Tottenham game looms closer and closer, the focus will shift, but right now there’s little more than transfer rumours and a rather nice surprise.

Mignolet

We were linked to Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet last week, and the Belgian goalkeeper himself spoke up to say the speculation was nice but he didn’t want to let it distract him. The rumours haven’t gone away, especially with Wojciech Sczeszsny producing a couple of rather silly moments in recent games.

The biggest, most important day of the Arsenal calendar is upon us. Arsenal have released their financial records! And better still, they’re the expected large profits! An open topped bus parade is expected, with Stan Kroenke performing a number of cash-related numbers at the concluding concert at the Emirates.

These include ABBA’s ‘Money, Money, Money’, ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’, and Pink Floyd’s ‘Money’, with Ivan Gazidis and Tomas Rosicky guesting on keyboards and guitar respectively.

It’s been as quiet as the day following a matchday usually is, with all the talking points of the previous game spoken to death and the press quotes picked apart. It’s lead to various previous discussions being dredged up, most notably the near-constant goalkeeping debate.

Wojciech-yourself

Our stick-guarding Pole made a rather poor show of Andreas Weimann’s effort for Villa’s equaliser yesterday, letting a hopeful shot slip under him. He’s come under scrutiny numerous times since becoming the Number 1, and the criticism has bubbled back up.

Arsenal are in a difficult place at the moment, as they are every couple of months. Every area of the club is being questioned, both from the outside and the inside, more notably from certain areas of the fanbase.

Judging from various communications coming out of the club in various forms, they aren’t really helping themselves these days.

Victory

Aston Villa were dispatched today, with two Cazorla goals seeing the strugglers sent back to Birmingham with their rather mouthy tails between their legs. I was at the game today, and noticed several things from my Upper Tier vantage point.
