A comfortable win in the end but the first 45 minutes were nervy to say the least. Walcott opened the scoring before goals from Giroud, an own goal, Sanchez and Ramsey sealed a five nil win. However, the game could have been so different if it wasn’t for an excellent save from Petr Cech.
Cech - 7 – Pulled off an excellent save in the first half but wasn’t troubled in the main.
Bellerin - 7- Attacked well throughout the game and should have got on the score sheet.
Mustafi - 6 – Was troubled early on by Rhead but coped well as the game went on.
Koscielny – 6 – Dealt with the crosses well but was rather unchallenged.
Gibbs - 8 – Was excellent throughout the match and was such an attacking threat all evening.
Xhaka – 6 – Played well and picked up a yellow. Tries to spread the play and keep the ball moving.
Ramsey – 7 – Performance was good overall and scored a goal.
Walcott - 7 – Scored the crucial opening goal which allowed Arsenal to express themselves.
Oxlade-Chamberlain – N/A – Started the game well before going off injured.
Sanchez – 7 – Scored the fourth goal but a change in his play today was obvious. Seemed to pass more and played as part of the team.
Giroud – 7 – A quiet game but scored the important second goal. Improved his performance in the second half.
Subs:
Ӧzil – 7 – Replaced the injured Oxlade-Chamberlain and played well considering he hasn’t played a lot of football. Linked the play well and started to show a bit of form.
Coquelin – 6 – Came on and just saw the game out.
Perez – 6 – Came on and looked bright and probably deserved to start.
Overall, the win was the most important result and more hard work is to come. However, it’s always nice to get to Wembley and let’s hope we can now win the cup which would be fitting for Arsene Wenger.
