On July 23rd, a third poll was held where people could vote on how much money people believed Wenger would spend strengthening the squad this summer.

These polls have been held to gauge peoples’ beliefs and levels of optimism for the club after CEO Ivan Gazidis’ proclamation of our £70 million war-chest, ability to pay astronomical salaries, akin to that of Wayne Rooney (£250k per week), and that we would be conducting our transfer business early.

The Polls

Below is a graph condensing three polls to demonstrate supporters’ opinions since the end of last season.

The Negative

It is evident that as the summer has progressed, the Arsenal faithful have understandably become more pessimistic and disheartened by our lack of transfer business (incoming that is).

As we all know, our only 1st team signing has been Yaya Sanogo and we are into the final three weeks of the transfer window. Fans fully expected to have new faces at the Emirates by now, and as evidenced above, have been severely disappointed and are losing hope.

After the end of last season, over 35% of people believed that Wenger would spend almost the entirety of our largest transfer kitty to date, now that number is down to 23%. In May relatively no one thought he would continue his frugal ways, however, now that number has jumped to 32%.

It’s a good thing there wasn’t a net gain choice, or I think the numbers would have been even uglier.

Promise

We may not have any new faces for the Champions League qualifiers versus Fenerbahçe, as they would have to have been signed yesterday, but we will certainly have new signings by September.

According to Sky Sports we have had a bid of £17.2 million accepted by Bayern, for Luiz Gustavo, and Gustavo himself has talked up a move to the Emirates. (Great signing if it happens).

I also wouldn’t call the Luis Suárez saga over yet as he refuses to apologise and according to Sky Sports, Brendan Rogers says there can be ‘no solution’ if he doesn’t.

Liverpool’s new signing Iago Aspas could very well be our Giroud of last season, as Wenger did eventually come out and say that he was the replacement for RVP. Liverpool have Sturridge and Borini in addition to Aspas, therefore it wouldn’t be all that shocking to see Suárez end up in North London after all.

Have your say!
