It was made official yesterday: Arsenal have accepted a 24 million pound bid for Robin Van Persie from Manchester United, he will complete his move tomorrow. This brings to an end Arsenal’s latest transfer saga involving a star player, though perhaps with a better ending than previous summers (more on that later). What’s more, Alex Song has been told he can leave the club for Barcelona, due to his disgusting attitude in training lately since he was linked.

This has seemingly thrown Arsenal into disarray yet again, with two of last year’s “stars” leaving the club. People are questioning the club’s ambition and direction, and the future of Arsene Wenger, the board, the tea lady and the borough of Islington.

Fear not, ladies and gentleman, for coming now are 10 solid BUSINESS and FOOTBALLING reasons why Arsenal have got the best out of these departures.

(I’m running on the assumption Song has gone for around 18M, btw).

Here we go:

1. Arsenal have recouped a total of 42 million pounds from this transfer, already wiping out the cash they’ve spent on our three signings so far. The transfer kitty of 40m is still present, and Wenger has stated that Arsenal “still have an eye on the market”.

2. Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal are after a replacement striker, by saying they aren’t. Wenger claimed he had replaced Van Persie to French TV last night, with Podolski and Giroud, but this is the same man who didn’t know who Cazorla was, two weeks before he signed.

3. In Song and Van Persie, Arsenal had two players who didn’t want to be at the club, which was apparently fairly clear in training. Now they’re gone, Arsenal can be clear and focused on their training and preparations, with no distractions and a shared enthusiasm for success at Arsenal.

4. Arsenal signed Robin Van Persie for 2.75 million in 2004, and have now sold him for 24. This is more than 8 times his original worth.

5. Arsenal bought Alex Song for 500k in 2006, and will sell him for 18. This is 36 TIMES his original worth.

6. Neither player will make the same impact at their new team.

7. Arsenal are now rid of the blight of Darren Dein at their club. Embittered by his father’s departure, Dein engineered the moves away of Clichy, Adebayor, Fabregas, Nasri, Song, and partially represented Van Persie. He can no longer twist Arsenal players minds into leaving, especially with him being banned from Arsenal events.

8. Last year, Arsenal had no real attacking outlet apart from Van Persie. When he was having an off day, or defences phased him out, Arsenal struggled for goals, though some were delivered (Arsenal had more individual goalscorers than any other team in the PL last term). With their new strike force of Podolski, Giroud and a possible new addition, Arsenal are not reliant on a single man and have a plethora of striking options, whether it be the speedy directness of Podolski or the skilful, physical aerial presence of Giroud.

9. As for Alex Song, he became a more attacking presence last year, at the expense of his defensive duties. He wasn’t responsible entirely for Arsenal’s 49 goals conceded last year, but he didn’t help. With the purchase of Cazorla, it seemed more likely that Song would be asked to sit back and defend more, a duty now seemingly left to a new defensive midfielder (or Arteta in a Makelele role).

10. Arsene Wenger is still at the club. As long as he is, we’ll never fall out of the top 4. UTA.

Thank you for your time. See you tomorrow.

Song is too tough in his play for La Liga, he will have to play more sissylike and will have to learn to dive now. Great player with bad attitude.
Enjoy polishing Busquets shoes from the bench now.

I will love it if will could sign at least one or two more players preferably a DM marshall.
If i may remind RVP and SONG that everything is not always greener on the other side of the world and good examples are our previous one season wonders like Flamini, Hleb, Kolo, Adebayor, Merida their are all subject to surplus now.

Mate, we've got depth. We've got at least two quality centre forwards, a million midfielders, three good centre backs. We could do with another full back or at least a defender who can play there, just in case. We're a better team than last season.

arsenal 1886-2012 motto = "forward" forward to the transfer market forward to the bank ..turning back on lifelong supporters .in the top 4.. but never the top ...sometimes the best ...but never silverware...we need depth in the squad not one striker not one central defender ...wonder if I will live long-enough to see my beloved "arsenal" win anything!!!!

Mr. Wenger you are right to sell those disobedience players in Hleb, Flamini, T. Kolo, Clincy, Adebayo, Nasri, Fabregas and now song and RVP. Apart from Clincy, Nasri and Fabregas the rest are struggling for playing time and form. Let me remind especially Song that he will be a 4th Choice at Barca and for RVP, he should know that Mr. Ferguson always buy players who always score goals against ManU - Saha can tesify for that. So wth or without RVP and Song Arsenal will be stronger, anyway what have they done to Arsenal in the last 8 Seasons????????????? Mr. Wenger please get for us a good striker, one defensive mid fielder and a full back then comes May 2013 Arsenal would be Champion.

Always found the desire for a midfield general weird. This isn't 2004, no other team has one of these big nasty players, closest is De Jong at City and he doesn't start.

Time for Coquelin to step up! He's got quality there and a cooler head than frimpong. Arteta could be used in the makelele role but then we're too soft again! We'll need a midfield general. Like Vieira was... Maybe now we know what Song wants then we can move for M'Vila or just someone with a bit of fight about them? A little bit nasty but good technically!

I blame Cese for this. he has sown the seeds of unfaithfulness in team AFC. Because he wanted to leave he talked craped about AFC to his friends Nasri,Gale,RvP,Song, Theo.
I fuking hate him now.

Quoting Rudy:
Good riddance. Arsenal have no need to tolerate disobedient players.
When Wilshere comes back, Song would have been a 3rd midfielder choice at best.
A 3rd choice? Calling this a ***ic post would be too nice a way of describing your contribution.

I am not bother be RVP leaving but selling Song this summer is a massive mistake. We will not go and buy De Jong and if anyone believes that Sahin (who is about to sign for liverpool)is a defensive midfielder then they are deluded, we may bring someone in on loan or on the cheap who is rubbish, otherwise the board have made another profit again this summer, whilst us fans are being continually ripped off. Top 4 is not good enough anymore, especially after the promises we were made when we moved to the emirates.

Arsenal will stand tall with or without RVP.We bild stars and sure all AFC funs will be happy to see him prosper.wish him all the best.Still an AFC fun.

3rd is hardly mediocre, just saying. Always amuses me that, people make it sound like we finish mid table every year.
#5 Vaffluence 2012-08-16 12:03
Just hope the new
signings will bring better results to the club. Tired of being a supporter of a mediocre team.

Need full backs IMHO. All 4 injury prone, can Sagna's leg hol up, Jenkinson's back, etc; plus left backs lack positional awareness.
