Just when you thought the end was in sight, the tale twists again. After Suarez’ apparent comments to Uruguayan journalist Martin Charquero last night where he declared his desire to stay at Liverpool, it has been revealed that such comments were false.

After a sensational performance where he scored and assisted in Uruguay’s 4-2 win over Japan, he had this to say to Japans Kyodo News.

"I didn't say that, maybe someone else did and the main thing is that I am here now with the national team.”

Both Charquero and Kyodo News are noted as reliable sources so it depends on whom you believe. The insanity of this saga is beyond belief and having written nearly 2 hours ago that the end is in sight, we’re back to where we started.

It seems the longest saga of the summer has now come to a bitterly disappointing end from an Arsenal fans point of view.

Last night news broke from Uruguayan journalist Martin Chaquero that Suarez had declared his intention to stay at Liverpool whilst in Japan on international duty.

Other options?

Arsenal have started to draw up other potential targets as the end of the transfer window draws near. Edin Dzeko and Michu are the names being thrown about today on the rumour mills. Arsene Wenger has been a long time admirer of the Bosnian since his days at Wolfsburg and was keen to land the forward until Manchester City inevitably blew us out of the water.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No… it’s the hopes of a big summer signing flying away into the distance.

The dreams that us Gooners had of bringing in a big named star, a £30million+ man, look to be over.

So what do you guys think about it? As usual, the world of football took to social media to voice their opinion on what has been a ridiculously unfruitful transfer window…

@piersmorgan “I'm so angry at this latest #Suarez news that I've bitten my own arm off. So a win-win for Liverpool fans, congrats. #afc”

@_MasonGunner_ “ If no Suarez then who's next?  Dzecko? Benzema? #AFC #Arsenal”

Arsene Wenger will refuse to pay the extra £3million that Bayern Munich are demanding for defensive midfielder Luis Gustavo.

Arsenal had apparently lodged a £14million bid for the Brazilian international midfielder earlier on in the week, but Bayern are reportedly holding firm on their £17million valuation.

Less ‘buy’ and more ‘bye’…

Gustavo could be the Gunners’ last hope of a competitive addition to the squad this summer after countless targets have gone amiss. Rooney, Bernard, and now Luis Suarez ignored interest from the North London side.

Luis Suarez will stay at Liverpool this summer.

The Uruguayan had supposedly been agonisingly close to a move from Liverpool  to the Gunners, with bids ranging from £40,000,000 to…. £40,000,001 failing as Brendan Rodgers hung on to his man.

Opportunity for a big signing!....

Suarez has had a turbulent time at Liverpool, serving bans for racial abuse and biting. This summer he looked set to leave Anfield after he publically announced his intent at a transfer, and Arsenal were among the only sides to pounce.

Suarez had flirted with Real Madrid in an attempt to catch their eye, but funds are seemingly short with world record bids for Gareth Bale being readied.
