Despite Liverpool’s immediate refusal of a £30m Arsenal bid for Luis Suarez this week, The Mirror report there is still belief around the club that the Uruguayan can be pinched from Liverpool’s clutches.

The Gunners seem keen to use their new financial power in order to sign a proven Premier League striker, with the controversial pair of Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney targeted, as well as Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain.

Would such a controversial player be welcome?

Suarez is thought to be the main target, shown by Arsenal’s willingness to bid a record-doubling £30m for the player. This news splits opinion among Arsenal fans, with some seeing the player for his fantastic footballing talent, whereas others see him as a diving, Branislav Ivanovic-biting, racist.

Sky Sports believe Arsenal are lining up a move for highly-rated Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, the French U20 international who also has impressed during the U20 World Cup.

He enjoyed a hugely successful season with Sevilla last year, playing 37 matches in all competitions and starting 23 La Liga matches.

Versatile midfielder

The 20-year-old is primarily a defensive midfielder but is equally adept to playing as a central midfielder in a double pivot role.

Real Madrid and Chelsea have shown an interest in him but that appears to have cooled as they have sounded out other players.

Arsenal’s goalkeeper search appears to have gone north, with Newcastle stopper Tim Krul being lined up for a move after QPR’s Julio Cesar’s reported transfer has stalled.

Cesar move stalling

It was believed that Cesar would be joining Arsenal. He wanted to stay in London and QPR were expecting his departure but the Brazil international has decided to take his time over any decision.

Cesar went on holiday recently and said he wouldn’t make a decision on his future until he returned.

He is a player who splits opinions. On one hand he is an extremely technically gifted footballer, on the other he is the pantomime villain. Luis Suarez may divide opinions, but one thing which is certain is that he wants to leave Liverpool.

The 26-year old Uruguayan, who publicly stated that he wants to leave Anfield, scored 30 goals in 44 games last season for Liverpool, has said that he has ‘two or three options’, with one of these clubs believed to be Arsenal.

Arsenal bid for Suarez?

Though it may seem hard to believe, Arsenal have apparently put in a £30 million bid for the striker which Liverpool have subsequently rejected.

Coming into this summer there were some things all Gooners agreed on. One such topic was the need for a new central midfielder.

At the start of the summer, Arsenal were linked with Everton’s Belgian giant Marouane Fellaini; however, this initial delight has since turned to despair, as newspaper’s are reporting that Arsene Wenger has now turned his attention to Man City’s Gareth Barry.

Truth in the rumour?

While many Arsenal fans would have loved to see Fellaini in the red and white of the Gunners, I never believed that Wenger would splash that much money (£25 million upwards) on the Belgian. However, with the Gareth Barry rumour I believe this is more realistic.
