It has been reported today by the Metro that Arsenal have agreed a fee for Bayern Munich midfield dynamo Luiz Gustavo for £14m with Wolfsburg and Chelsea also believed to be looking at the player.

Like many targets over the summer the 26 year old has been linked repeatedly by the usual subjects including the Mirror but has largely gone unnoticed alongside the constant will he/won’t he stories regarding Higuain and Suarez that have dogged Arsenal’s summer.

Gustavo looks to be one of the obvious casualties of Bayern’s heavy spending this summer facing competition from the likes of Schweinsteiger, Martinez, Kroos and new arrival Thiago(Who Bayern fans are not as pleased with as you might think, some people are never happy!!).

Gustavo is now keen on a move to secure first team football ahead of the World Cup having only made 16 Bundesliga starts this season, and is open to a move but only time will tell once contract discussions have been concluded.

I fancy this transfer it works for all parties involved, Luiz Gustavo stands at 187cm and weighs 80kg meaning he would be our biggest and most physical midfielder aside from Diaby, who at the age of 27 has missed too much football to be counted anymore and this transfer would undoubtedly signal Wenger has given up his hopes for him to fulfil his potential.

In terms of fitting into our team he would have to take the obvious place in the midfield alongside Arteta with Ramsey providing first choice cover till Arteta’s age begins to catch up with him (touch wood every one of you that it will never happen . . .TOUCH IT!!!!).

Let’s hope this one is a goer Gooners I think this one could give us the best mix of value, experience and talent we could hope to get in this market and would prove a very astute move by the club.

@Gunherewecome: thank you for your support but i understand why people are sceptical, you have to be sceptical with 90% if not more of the stories are completly fabricated but this one looked to have legs and was recommended to me by the page admin

i believe there is a chart somewhere which compares the stories papers ran in regard to what turned out to be true last year and the metro was in fact the worst with only something lie 13% being true while the guardian got the best with 33% or something

@Sahid: nothings ever certain till they sign the dotted line remember utd's conference on signing obi mikel

Those people who criticised this guy for using the Metro as a source, need to eat their words. Today this is mentioned in The Sun. At least AW appears to be realising that we need to spend now, rather than waiting until transfer deadline day. Fingers crossed for Gustavo.

The wrong thing with Wenger is he is too confident over nothing.

What about the goalie.a central defender and a forward. The fm has been dithering. As said ,the gunners have had a poor gk compared to the top teams. As for central defence,I strongly believe the big German is an accident waiting to happen as shown by the ease with Drogba turned him.
For the last two seasons he has been shown to be vulnerable like Cygan,Stepeanov, etc. We have only the german, the French guy,Walcoo as three outright strikers.Chamaberlai n maybe so so.
The win over MC maybe good for morale but I doubt the gunners can challenge with kids.

Am convinced it would be a good sighing which would mean fresh legs in our midfield. It could also automatically activate the release of players like Diaby who has never en i mean never been helpful to Arsenal,he has not billed to our expectations and he never will.

@panther i think he may have been sarcastic...i hope so anyway

Some fool on this site asked " Who is Gustavo"? Some times it amazes me the amount of stupidity and ignorance you get on the internet. Just for the record, Gustavo is FIRST CHOICE DM for Brazil and he has taken care of Barcelona in the CL and Spain in the Confederations cup.

This would be a great signing for us but as a sceptical fan. I will not be applauding this until I see him being unveiled to the media as a Gunner.
To many rumors and not enough facts this transfer window, wishful thinking based on our current net profit from this summer.

@Mark i never said arteta's legs are gone i said when his age catches up with him, also i never made any comment on ramsey other than if gustavo was bought he would be used in rotation

@LK i disagree i like ramsey but many argue that we need a larger physical presence in the middle of the park and arteta is the first name on our sheet at the minute keep it civil boys

The only route Ramsey can take Mark IS to get better because he cannot get much worse...

What's your cat's best tip?

Arsenal set to sign Gustavo (who is he ?) just as we were about to sign Higuain as well and all the other players we are going to sign - I would find the story "Arsenal sign no body before the transfer deadline" far more believable...

No idea what you are talking about arteta,s legs are gone Ramsey gets better with every game clueless comment it really is

The Metro! Are you not even the slightest embarrassed to use them as a source? These claims have already been debunked. Someone on Twitter made some unverified claims and the Metro rain with it.

metro about as reliable as my cat!
