Mesut Özil and Aaron Ramsey, who both picked up knocks in international matches earlier in the week, will both be fit for the home Premier League game against Norwich City on Saturday.

The players returned to the Gunners’ training ground at London Colney yesterday and the early news is reported to be positive.

Özil picked up a bruised knee and hamstring strain in Germany’s 5-3 victory over Sweden, while Ramsey slightly aggravated the minor thigh injury he carried into the international break.

The squad reconvenes for full training today and Özil and Ramsey’s progress will be assessed further then.

Santi Cazorla is expected to be available for selection for the first time since spraining his ankle ligaments in the victory over Tottenham on 1 September. The Spanish midfielder has been training throughout the international week.

Theo Walcott is also expected to return to full training today, following his rehabilitation from abdominal surgery. He has an outside chance of making the Norwich game but should be available for the important matches coming up over the next few weeks.

Players confident and feeling good

Meanwhile, Ramsey – the Premier League’s Player of the Month for September – has told Sky Sports that he is confident his best form is still to come.

Ramsey said:

“I think there is more to come. I’m still only 22. I still need to do better and learn a few more things but [Arsène Wenger] is telling me about that, things like positioning defensively… When [we] haven’t got the ball, while we’re defending – sometimes I am not always where I need to be.

“At the back end of last season I… got my confidence back, started playing some good stuff again and that’s carried on this year. The confidence is flowing throughout the team at Arsenal at the moment.

We are top of the league, playing some good stuff and I think all the players are feeling good at the moment. All of us just want to get out there and play as much football as we possibly can at the moment.”

“I need to be playing well, be involved in the game and taking these games by the scruff of the neck and keep doing the things I’ve been doing.”

With 10 goals already to his name this season – including Wales’s equaliser in Tuesday’s creditable 1-1 draw with Belgium – Arsenal fans will be hoping Ramsey continues to shine.

National squads should compensate clubs when their players get injured and can't play.
