It seems Arsenal and Chelsea aren’t only going head-to-head in the Premier League but in the transfer window too, and over two players.

Firstly The Times and Daily Star insist that Chelsea are set to bid for Brazilian-born Spanish resident Diego Costa.

The Times report that the Blues are ready to open preliminary discussions with Atlético Madrid over the 25-year-old ahead of a move in the summer, which could suit both parties.

They believe that Thibault Courtois could be used in the deal, with the Belgium keeper moving to Atlético permanently. It should also help that Costa’s agent is Jorge Mendes, the same man that represents José Mourinho.

Daily Star don’t go into as much detail as the Times but they believe Chelsea will bid for the Atlético forward who has been in scintillating form this campaign.

They don’t disclose however when the Blues will bid for Costa, whether it will be in this window or the summer.

Arsenal have been linked with the Brazilian for the last couple of months but according to these reports Chelsea seem to be steering ahead in the race for the forward.

Adrien Rabiot

Diego Costa isn’t the only player Arsenal and Chelsea are going against each other for, Paris Saint-Germain youngster Adrien Rabiot is another.

This is according to the Metro, who admit reports in France are among their sources.

Le Parisien are one French newspaper reporting the news, they believe that a halt in talks over a new contract could see the 18-year-old look to move elsewhere.

Rabiot’s contract doesn’t run out until next year but slow talks over his extension mean Chelsea and Arsenal are showing interest.

Already playing for the France under-21’s, Rabiot is a huge talent and Arsenal surprising turned down the opportunity to sign him last summer according to reports.

Now it seems Arsène Wenger and Mourinho will go head-to-head over players this January before taking each other on in the title race.
