Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué has accidentally revealed that Cesc Fàbregas will be moving for a fee of €33 million, however the future club of the 27-year-old isn’t officially revealed yet; despite Chelsea being THE ONLY favourites.

Piqué was at a promotional event when he discussed the future of the international midfielder with Spain coach Vicente del Bosque. Unfortunately for the pair the conversation was picked up by one of the active TV microphones on the table.

Going… going… gone!

Barcelona defender and del Bosque, the conversation started with the Spain coach saying: “About Cesc…”

Piqué added: “He already told me it’s done. He is leaving for €33 million.”

Before del Bosque said: “The [Barcelona] president isn’t going to be happy. You’re going to drive him mad, poor guy. You’re going to upset him.”

Even though it is common knowledge that Arsenal have first option on Fàbregas, they have declined to go for their former player. The Daily Telegraph believe the 27-year-old is disappointed that the Gunners haven’t tried to sign him but still expects to move to England.

Money to spend but no bid

Tim Payton, meanwhile, confirmed that chief executive Ivan Gazidis did enquire about the services of the Barcelona midfielder but it was decided to focus on other players and other areas.

Payton believes financial restraints are one of the reasons why the club can’t bring Fàbregas back to the club. However, that seems an absurd statement to make when it is worth considering that the club have at least £100 million to spend on transfer this summer, with some people reporting even more.

That means they could have brought the Spaniard back to the club, and in the process add to the feel good factor circulating at Arsenal. Fàbregas could also have been a key addition in the clubs hopes of challenging in the Premier League and Champions League.

Failing to use buy-back clause

It means the decision to insert a buy-back clause in the contract of the 27-year-old is a bizarre one, considering the club aren’t going to exercise the option. The fact that Fàbregas is likely to join one of Arsenal title rivals is another reason why the club should be doing their utmost to bring him back to the Emirates.

It seems, though, that the Barcelona man will move to Chelsea and in the process boost their hopes for the 2014/15 season and decrease our chances of silverware. When will our club learn…

The only thing that makes be think about Fab coming back as negative was the way he left, didn't give a toss about us when he was getting the world and his wife to beg Wonga to let him go to Bacca.

I think if Arsenal has a clear shortlist, they should purchase several top targets earlier. Unless selling clubs will not let their player leave in the end of transfer window since there will be less time to find a replacement. No big signings before the World Cup!

Fabregas is a necessity for Chelsea to plug the hole left by a departing Lampard. For Arsenal, he would be a luxury buy, taking away precious money to be spent on other positions.

Stop being so negative and bitter all the time. You have won a trophy after so many years, you can definitely win more trophies in the coming years.

He left Arsenal because they were incapable of winning the league or the champions league so why would he go back to an arguably worse side than the one he left ?

Arsenal and Wenger simply CANNOT change their ways - there is no point even in hoping they will.

People like Gordon Finlayson are simply stating that we do not need a world class midfielder like Fabregas because he knows we would never sign him anyway.

Our competitors get strong and Arsenal get weaker, same story every summer...

1. Reuben, it looked like we cared when we DID win silverware. Don't just go spouting off what that master manipulator at ANR is saying. We also improved on our points and finished 7 points off of the pace.

2. I would love to have Cesc back, but we have other positions that need to be filled first(CB,RB,CDM and a striker). I'm mostly disappointed that he's going to Chelsea. It will be painful to see him in their kit.

A seriously competitive club will not throw away the opportunity of denying its rivals when a key player becomes available in the market. That's what all major clubs do. Ambition in any endeavour requires a total commitment. How can a player of Fabregas'(former Captain of the team) experience be allowed to sign for a rival club? What was the essence of inserting the buyback option if the club wouldn't exercise it? Why does AW think he must always have the final say and become insensitive to the fans' feelings, when it is the fans' tickets that pay his salary?

Rubbish. Arsenal do not need another attacking midfielder. Other areas are more important, including a defensive midfielder, a pacy attacker, and a Right back/Centre back replacement. If we spend 27 million on Cesc, that only leaves 73 million for the other three players, and you don't get much for 24M these days. No room for sentimentality.

When will you learn that the club doesn't care about silverware. They only care about fooling enough people into thinking they want silverware so they can keep making a healthy profit. They want their profit to be as low risk as possible
