The world cup is in full swing meaning players are being looked on the biggest stage. Porto star Jackson Martinez is the latest star to be looked at by Wenger who is now in the impressive Colombia side.

According to reports in Portugal, Arsenal have contacted Porto about a deal to bring him to the Emirates.

Arsenal are considering paying release clause of £35 million for the striker who has been highly touted and looked at for a year. Playing his football in Porto, Martinez has a wealth of champion’s league football, although the Portuguese league is not the greatest.

Martinez has scored two goals so far in the world cup which both came against Japan. Arsenal want to get this deal done because Porto want to negotiate a new contract and put his release clause up to £70 million.

Martinez is the type of striker which would please most Arsenal fans especially with his formidable goal scoring record.  Martinez has the physique, pace and power which is required to be successful in the Premier League.

All I want is a proven striker in arsenal next season

I know this is unlikely but I'd rather get James Rodriguez if possible for under 50 million but that won't happen. Not proven and too much World Cup star dust on him at the moment. But he's only 22 and should have plenty of upside.

35 m for Martinez, far too much for a player who will be 28 in October. Rather spend that on Alexis Sanchez (25).
Giroud,Sanchez,Campb ell& sanogo is a good mix of strikers

Seeing him at the World Cup, he's definitely not worth it.

Mario Mandzukic would be a better choice for Arsenal. He has more high level experience and shows more composure.

I am sceptical of players who perform brilliantly at the wc.Is there any guarantee they can or will be able to produce their brilliance in the soccer leagues of Europe?
Of course some of these guys have been tracked by seasoned scouts. This applies to the unknown players. It will take a great leap of faith for any manager to pay a big pile of money for such guys.
