If reports are to be believed Arsenal have made their first signing of the summer and it is Newcastle full-back Mathieu Debuchy.

The French international has been playing for Les Blues during the 2014 World Cup and has a clash against Germany to look forward too, however he has still found the time to finalise a move according to the Daily Star.

£12 million deal too pricey?

The Star report that the Gunners have agreed a fee of £12 million for the 28-year-old but they fail to add further weight to those claims.

The Metro add weight to the claims though by reporting that the Debuchy’s transfer from Newcastle to Arsenal will be confirmed after the World Cup.

And they believe it was the full-backs ambition to play in the Champions League that forced Newcastle’s hand in allowing him to leave.

Right-back issue needed sorting

After Bacary Sagna departed the Emirates at the end of last season to sign for Manchester City, Arsene Wenger has been on the look out for a new right-back.

Although Debuchy is far from a glamour name, he has showed himself to be dependable for France in the World Cup while has generally impressed since moving to the Premier League with Newcastle.

This will be a key signing to ensure Arsene Wenger’s team don’t go into the new campaign without a solid right-back.

Arsenal and Wenger will almost certainly add more exciting players to their squad but for now it appears logical to get the right-back issue sorted and we now await official confirmation regarding Debuchy’s move to the Emirates.

As an NUFC fan, from our end of the reporting, the local media and talk in Newcastle is that he has not signed for Arsenal. It is pure speculation at this time and the player has said multiple times that he is happy at NUFC. I wouldn't be surprised to see him depart under our hierarchy however.

For those saying he's not good enough, he was statistically THE best right back in Europe last season - FACT.

I seriously hope he doesn't sign for Arsenal as hands down he is the best player at NUFC.

Do not be surprised if Arsenal end up with no major signings. Wenger and co are again slow off the mark, we need at least four new quality players. What we will end up with is a last ditch second rate player(s) and fourth place again if we are lucky. Come on Arsenal get a move on

Whilst I realise that the World Cup isn't the ideal gauge. .I'm not convinced by Debuchy over Aurier. Whilst the Frenchman has experience of the EPL he's never particularly convinced at Newcastle. By all accounts Aurier can also slot in at Centre Back and represents a better long term prospect.I thought that Wenger had now lost his preoccupation with the purchase of compatriots. ..I await his decision although the indications are that this has already been taken!!

According to NUFC no deal had been done, according to Debuchy's agent no deal has been done yet you see fit to what surmounts to tapping up a player by announcing he's signed for AFC.
