Newcastle and France first choice full-back Mathieu Debuchy has edged closer to his big money move to Arsenal, after passing a full medical completed by the club last night.

Medical Man

The Daily Star report the news of the medical alongside the news that Debuchy could be announced as a Gunner by the end of today, a fee of £12 million being agreed for the World Cup quarter-finalist between the Premier League clubs.

After keeping Bacary Sagna out of the national side with his consistent performances, Debuchy has earned the admiration of Arsène Wenger, who decided to pursue his compatriot over original target Serge Aurier.

One in, one out

The deal will delight the Arsenal hierarchy as they look to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season, the transfer fee only a small slice of the reported £100 million war chest that is available to spend on signings this summer.

Debuchy’s arrival will reportedly signal the brief departure of English right-back Carl Jenkinson, who is in talks to go in the opposite direction to Newcastle on a season long loan from the Gunners.

Arsenal will be hoping to finalise all the paperwork before the official launch of the Puma kit on Thursday, many fans expecting the North London club to announce multiple signings during the historic event.

Calibre Clone

Debuchy’s arrival will show Wenger’s intent to improve his squad adequately, by signing a Premier League experienced and full international player for his side.

Although Bacary Sagna is leaving after seven years of calm and composed defensive work, Arsenal fans can be reassured that Mathieu Debuchy will provide a fresh approach to their defensive, with hopefully many more signings of his calibre to come.

Good job Wenger. I don't think we will miss Sagna after all. After Alexis, who is coming next?....Bender!!!

Debuchy! Finally we got him. Good job Wenger. But don't relax yet, we still have to get the job done with Sanchez and buy a DM(maybe Bender, Khedira or Toure).

Jenkinson leaving? Where would be the cover for RB? Or could that explain the trial for the Egyptian Fathi? Certainly Bellerin would be a shade too early?
