Reports have emerged today that young right-back Carl Jenkinson is set to leave Arsenal, after the arrivals of Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers have put his short-term future in jeopardy.

Come to the city

It has been alleged that Hull City, who Arsenal defeated in the FA Cup final last season, are interested in taking the player on loan, after comments from Steve Bruce this week.

The Daily Mail quote the Hull manager claiming that,

“I had a conversation with Arsenal four or five weeks ago to say would it be possible and apparently it might be. We'll look at that situation.

We haven't had confirmation from Arsenal and I would hate to upset them by speaking out of turn but we are led to believe the kid might be available for loan.

If he is, then of course we would be interested.”

Surplus to requirements

It is thought that although Swansea City, Newcastle United and West Ham United have all enquired on his availability, Hull City are set to win the race for the out of favour right-back.

Goal.com go as far to say that the 22-year old feels surplus to requirements, which will lead his representatives to encourage a move worth £3 million to the KC Stadium.

Fight for his place

The developments seem a far cry from May, when Jenkinson proclaimed to the Evening Standard that he would fight for his position in the team.

"I want that position to be mine for years to come. Of course I have got a long way to go, because this is a club who look for the best players in the world.

If I am going to hold down the position for as long as I want to, I have got a lot of hard work on my hands. But I believe in myself.”

Leaps and bounds

Carl Jenkinson has improved leaps and bounds since his shock arrival from Charlton, but ultimately has not proved his worth in the first-team for Arsène Wenger.

Debuchy turns 29 today, therefore it seems as though Jenkinson is more likely to go on loan, to give the lifelong Gunner a glimmer of hope in his red and white career.
