Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Alessio Cerci from Torino in an attempt to reinforce the attacking options of the side.

Wenger is said to be desperate to land a striker before the transfer window slams shut on September 1st, especially with Olivier Giroud out injured for up to 3 months and Lukas Podolski set for a move away from the Emirates.

Premier League recruits such as Welbeck, Remy and Bony have all been mentioned as potential investments to the Gunners squad however reports from Italy have claimed that wideman Cerci is Wenger’s number one target having missed out on Mario Balotelli to Liverpool.

"l'Henry di Valmontone"

“The Thierry Henry of Valmontone” scored 13 times in 37 appearances for Torino last season and has done the rounds in Serie A representing Roma twice, Brescia, Atlanta and Fiorentina since 2003. His 11 assists in Serie A last season was the most of any player.

He was named in Cesare Prandelli’s final 23-man squad for Italy at this summer’s World Cup but only got on the pitch once. He has made 13 appearances in total for the Azzurri, but is yet to register his first international goal.

After helping Torino to a healthy 7th place finish last campaign, the side are now resigned to losing the man who was Manchester City bound in 2011, with AC Milan and Roma interested – the latter who he spent 8 years with.

The 27-year-old played mainly as a second striker last season and so would not quite be the resolution to Arsenal’s frontman woes, however he would be a solid acquisition adding yet more depth to a strong side.

As long as the striker situation is resolved soon, the transfer window will have been a successful one.

Wonga might trawl the bargain basements for maybe 1 more player now. WTF does he only do half a job, methinks its to keep the fans happy and the board who he makes lots of money for then they will keep paying his extortionate wages.

A second rung player for a first rung team. Would you be happy if Giroud was fit and Mr W bought this player as a second striker? I for one would not be, so I am certainly not happy he is being brought in when we have Giroud out for anything longer than one week. I hope this story of potentially buying a player who scored on 13 goals last season and who also has no PL experience is not true.
