Arsenal have received a huge boost in their chase for a new recruit before the transfer window ends as Sporting Lisbon are now willing to sell William Carvalho.

The Portuguese midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League throughout the summer with Manchester United openly chasing his signature.

Arsenal were also among the clubs reportedly interested and they could now land the talented youngster.

€30 million for Carvalho?

Portuguese paper Record believe Sporting will be willing to sell the 22-year-old for €30 million after previously demanding €45 million.

The reports from Record comes fast on the heels of O Jogo insisting the Gunners can sign Carvalho for around €30-35 million.

However, the terms of the deal would see the Portuguese international loaned back to Sporting. An agreement, you would imagine, that wouldn’t suit Arsene Wenger and the north London club.

Gnabry or Sanogo…

Meanwhile the Metro speculate that Carvalho’s club may ask Arsenal to loan either Serge Gnabry or Yaya Sanogo to them.

With Olivier Giroud expected to be out for several months, though, it appears unlikely that Sanogo will be allowed to leave.

Gnabry, on the otherhand, could benefit from a spell in a foreign country playing regular first team football.

Is Wenger willing to spend more?

This all hinges on whether Wenger would be willing to spend €30 million after splashing the cash all summer on various new signings like Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers.

With just days left until the transfer window slams shut Arsenal don’t have too much time to complete the deal but don’t be surprised if the Gunners springing a surprise and bringing Carvalho to the Emirates.

If we can buy him, fine, if not, we can still do it with or without him. The condition attached in his deal is totally unthinkable. We can't spend such a huge amount on a player who is likely to go back to his former club.

Wenger won't spend anymore big money. He'll use another £10-£15m on a couple of second-rate players that will spend most of their time on the bench, only coming on when we have an injury and then being totally out of their depth at the top end of the PL. There is a reason why MU, MC and Chelsea have won the title for the last decade...they buy players who are capable of playing at top end of the table!
