Chuba Akpom cashed in on the departure of a host of strikers in consecutive transfer windows by imposing a threatening figure whenever asked to come on. The teenager has been so impressive that Arsene Wenger claimed that he has the raw potential to become a top-class player.

Speaking to Arsenal Player, the English youth international claimed that his mentality has its roots in east London, where he trained as a juvenile. He was a bit too philosophical for a teenager as he adjudged that anything is achievable, if one puts his heart to it.

"If you put your mind to it, anything’s achievable. Where I’m from, it’s a tough upbringing so everyone from my area has a strong mentality.”

The 19-year-old stated that his early footballing days had instilled the winning mentality in him and boasted that he has a super competitive mentality.

“When we used to play football you wanted to win otherwise there would be a scrap, there would be something going on, so I’ve a strong mentality. I’m super, super competitive and it’s good to have a winning mentality. Anything you want to do, if you put your mind to it and work hard, you can do it.”

“You’ve got to have that belief in yourself. I love the saying ‘you are what you believe’. If you believe you’re a champion, you’re going to train like a champion. You’re going to run like a champion and do everything like a champion. It’s like an extra boost.”

He admitted that playing for a football club that is as big as Arsenal adds a lot of pressure, but claimed that he could well deal with it.

“From training through the reserves and playing matches with the reserves, you’re playing at the Emirates in front of 60,000 fans. It’s a really big step, then you’ve got people watching on TV and it’s global. Everyone’s watching so it’s a lot of pressure but you’ve got to do it, it’s got to be done.”

Chuba Akpom recently signed a long-term contract extension with the Gunners and is believed to make his mark at Emirates Stadium in the years to come.
