After failing twice in their attempts to bring down Raheem Sterling, Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on Jack Wilshere, whom they surprisingly value at £5million shy of their valuation of the Liverpool winger.

Manuel Pellegrini has lost Frank Lampard, James Milner, Micah Richards and Scott Sinclair this summer and desperately needs to sign a few home-grown players to not fall foul of the UEFA regulations.

The Etihad Stadium club have all but confirmed the signing of Patrick Roberts and now seem to be on the lookout for world-class quality in their potential home-grown player signing.

English media suggested earlier this year that the Citizens were readying a sensational bid for the Englishman, but the murmurs eventually subsided when he confessed that he would not sign for a club, who only need him to add to the quota.

“I definitely wouldn’t go somewhere just because I’m a homegrown player. I’d want to be wanted by a club. I want to be wanted by Arsenal. I’ve grown up at Arsenal, I’m a homegrown player and, as long as Arsenal want me, then I’m happy.”

The 23-year-old will certainly be offered more money than what his current Arsenal contract gives him, but he has often pledged his long-term future, if not, entire footballing career to the north London outfit.

Neither a £30million bid nor a £150,000-a-week contract could make him an Ashley Cole.

Man city sold their soul when they let the Arabs take over. Sure they " won" the title a couple of times but to be honest everyone knows that they bought it. Clubs like Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool are light years ahead in terms of titles won because they were able to attract quality players based on their footballing reputations and their class as footballing institutions. The likes of Man city and Chelsea will return to their old mediocrity once the sand dunes and Russian mafia tire of them. Over many decades when there was a level playing pitch those clubs could not and did not attract the players needed to succeed. The likes of Peter Osgood and Colin Bell were among the few class players both clubs could boast about. There is an old biblical saying that says " dust thou art and dust thou shalt return " !

Cazorla probably has one top season left at the Emirates, after which we can expect Wileshere to take his place. He's not ready yet as he has missed too much football through injuries. He needs to knuckle down, learn as much as he can from Cazorla and be ready to take over when the time comes. That said, there is no way the Arsenal board will say no to £40M if City make that kind of a bid.

Typical Man C cattle market attitude, buy a home grown player no matter the cost, just to satisfy regulations. Cannot see Jack getting any more playing time there than at Arsenal. Stay with us Jack, the other midfielders are towards the end of their career, you are the future, just keep fit please

I would object to His joining Man City. As long as it benifits as in return. Looking at our attacking midfield is to congested with some useless names and yet we are under filled by defending midfielders. To mention the likes of Flamini, Abou, Arteta, Zelalema, Krystian..
If these can not be offloaded, the we should consider latting Jack W go to be able to raise money so as to bring a mature DM, to support Coquelin.

Forget it City! Not even 100 million would be enough. He is an Arsenal player, and will not be anything than that. Even though he has been troubling with injuries and had a bad season we all know what he is going to become. He has that extra thing that cannot be bought for money, an Arsenal heart and a homegrown player. City, start developing your own players! But we all know the answer to that, your are not going to do it, because you rather buy the finished product every time you are in trouble.
