Speaking to Roma’s official website, goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has gone on to praise Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Wojciech Szczesny looked like he would be able to establish himself as the number one Arsenal goalkeeper for years to come after making his impressive debut during the 2010/11 Premier League campaign.

The Pole performed very well between the sticks for Arsenal despite his youthful age and was able to retain his place in the Gunners’ starting lineup for the next four seasons.

However, Szczesny was plagued with error prone performances during the 2014/15 campaign and he eventually lost his number one spot to David Ospina following a serious breach of discipline after being caught smoking in the changing room following a 2-0 defeat by Southampton back in 2015.

With the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea last season, Szczesny was pushed further down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium and having seen his first team prospects reduce significantly, the 26-year-old went on to join Italian giants Roma on loan.

It has to be said that the Polish international has managed to recapture his best form at the Stadio Olimpico and is currently at Roma for a second consecutive temporary spell.

Szczesny speaks highly of Wenger

One can only suspect as to whether Szczesny has a long term future at Arsenal but despite his unceremonious exit from North London, he has gone on to praise Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger for influencing his career.

The custodian told Roma’s official website, “They’re (Luciano Spalletti and Arsene Wenger) different coaches working in different leagues and using different tactics. Both of them really value discipline. It’s vital for them, which is something lots of coaches get wrong.

“They want to teach you about football and improve their players, as well as focusing on team results. I enjoy working with them both – they’ve taught me a lot.”

Szczesny is certainly a quality goalkeeper on his day and if he can continue his fine run of form, there is no reason as to why Arsenal will not give him another chance to revive his career at the Emirates Stadium.
