The 3rd round of the FA Cup is one of the most exciting days of the season, and this year Arsenal find it as their only real prospect of winning a trophy.

After Arsenal’s four game winning streak in the league came to an end with an awful performance in the draw against Southampton, now is the chance to bounce back.

‘Maximum Effort’

After losing to Bradford in the Capital One Cup, being way behind in the league, and up against tough opposition in Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Arsenal know that realistically it’s this or nothing. So it has been no surprise to see Wenger come out and say that the side will put their ‘maximum effort’ in to secure passage to the next round.

Usually in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, Wenger would use the chance to rotate the squad, but with this our only real chance of success, he has pointed out that he will field a strong side, and won’t rotate the side unnecessarily.

Stylish Swansea

Last season Swansea surprised most with their stylish attacking brand of football under Brendan Rodgers, and much credit must go to Michael Laudrup for not only continuing it, but also improving the team.

Swansea dominated Arsenal five weeks ago at the Emirates when they ran out deserved 2-0 winners controlling the possession and beating the Gunners at their own game. Arsenal will be trying to make up for that defeat on Sunday.

Result

With Arsenal very hit-and-miss at this moment in time, and Swansea on a poor run of 1 win in 6, this game could go either way. It is highly likely that this will be a very tight game, and there wouldn’t be too much of a shock if it went to a reply.

Let’s hope that Arsenal can finally get the New Year started, with progression to the next round.

I predict a 2-2 result - with the Welsh scoring in the last minute to force a replay at Emerates.

I was very disappointed to read that some of Wenger's boys have already conceded the PL for this season and contemplating finishing 4th again. It is amazing what we have come to embrace as our highest possible achievement year on year.

I can just see the picture hanging on the dressing room wall.

"You know you finished top of the league by achieving 4th".
