Former Arsenal striker John Hartson has commented today on his countryman Aaron Ramsey, suggesting he would benefit from a loan spell to get regular playing time and regain his form.

"I just think he needs that run of games," said Hartson.

"Maybe if he did go out on loan he'd get that, because he doesn't seem to start many games at Arsenal now and when he does start he's brought off and he doesn't look happy."

It's worth pointing out that Ramsey has to contend with a somewhat crowded Arsenal midfield with a number of players in the same position as him. Hartson acknowledged this, saying:

"With Arsenal you look at their midfield. Arteta, Wilshere, Walcott, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, they've got some really, really gifted players in the midfield," said Hartson.

"So it's up to Aaron to put in the performances week-in, week-out and on the training ground."

"I just don't think he's quite hit the heights in terms of where he was before he got injured, but he will, I'm sure he will.

"He needs to play play with a smile on his face, get back to enjoying football. It just seems as if there's something holding him back at the minute."

Confidence

This has been Ramsey's biggest issue since his return from injury and his loans at Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City.

At times he's shown flashes of his pre-Shawcross form, but hesitancy and the tendency of supporters to get on his back has impeded him.

This hasn't been helped by his being played on the wing by Arsene Wenger, which while seemingly pointless is a recognized tactic for players who will play centrally in future; it allows them to learn the roles of a winger and distribute to them better, and to operate better in tight spaces.

Perhaps Hartson is right. If Ramsey went of loan to a Premier League side who played him every week he could regain that lost confidence and eliminate the fear from his game.

But maybe his education on the wing this season is important for his career. Remember he is only 22, he's a young player.

There is no room in the Arsenal for all this sentimental waffle about Ramsey. He is not a PL player and therefore should be sold. Try putting him on Ebay surely someone will want him.

ramsey is a tough guy who will prove you doubters wrong, he is arsenal through and through

Ramsey has potential but need to loose some of his clumsiness if he is to fit into the Arsenal style. After every run he seems to be a bit lost and confused and delivers a poor last ball. Arsenal cannot afford the time this season to give him - so loan or sell seems the only way forward.

Just loan him in the next season to a club which can offer him in the first team.
If it is in premier league it will be nice or in germany or spain..

Man city game is the best rambo ever play sofar, when ever he started 4 arsenal we always struggle 2 win. Cus he is too slow, poor finishing in front of a goal, and no excuse 4 his injury example jack/w came back strongly in a couple weeks after a longer injury. The fact is that rambo is not good enough 2 play 4 arsenal now, we should send him on loan to improve.

He's rubbish. He does not dribble or tackle. He passes badly and his shooting is poor. He was never very good, but everybody revised their opinion on him, once the poor lad broke his leg. If he was playing for Swansea today, for example, I can't imagine anybody would be wishing that we signed his. That's the test.

@breezy you should have said "a loan spell to ANOTHER mid table team"... because as with other kroenke teams that's what we are right now.

when ever Ramsey starts,we struggle,i dont remember the last time we won a game in which he started.he is cursed and so we should sell him.maybe to Swansea.(Ramsey plus £10 million for Michu).

I see nothing wrong with Ramsey at the club. He has made 25 appearances this season, which is good for his age. Furthermore, being played on the wing is ok in a possession based style like Arsenal's, as he position switches during the game and cuts in to play next to Cazorla at times. I believe he has tremendous ability, and has played well this season.

A loan spell to a mid table club where he could play centrally and without pressure will do him a world of good.

If you look back at the starting elevens this season and last, the standout fact is that when Ramsey starts we lose and when he doesn't we win, with hardly any exceptions. He is too slow and we only play well when we play at a high tempo. He cannot tackle and it is no coincidence that with him on for 70 minutes at Swansea, we were 1-0 down and it took just 13 minutes for us to score twice as soon as he went off. He can't tackle or run with the ball - he has even found a way to trip himself up!He is a long way from being Premiership standard.

like to see Rosicky play more not sure about Ramsey didnt seem to gain anything at cardiff gone backwards

Loan him out and see if he improves. If he shows massive progress, then consider keeping him. If he stays at his current level, sell him. Currently, he is a drag on the team and does not contribute much of anything.

Loan him out i bleaf he is different than wilshere he can be same as Rosicky .that is why he is learning to play wide I'd love him to learn fast so my be he can profit to go out lou.

He is first and foremost a centre midfielder, and so should be playing there. For me he provides adequate cover for our current middle trio, as he is not to there standard yet. Wenger should be playing him centrally in games like Swansea in the cup, to give wilshere, arteta and cazorla a break, and to allow ramsey to show us what he is made of. At the moment though he belongs on our bench, not on the wing.

Loan him out & maybe someone can discover what his best position strengths are. There's been a lot of talk about how he needs time after a long time out but Wilshere had longer out injured & came back strongly in a matter of weeks. Likewise Rosicky & Diaby...after a career of injuries. I'd love to be proved wrong but he looks like a Welsh version of Denilson to me.
+1 #1 steve 2013-01-08 17:36
It would be good to see him play through the middle, i felt sorry for him at the weekend as he was used as a left winger! why i ask is Rosicksy or the Ox playing in this position? But then you would have to question Bendtner and Arshavin who also had to play left midfield just to keep Wenger happy...and he destroyed their careers.
