You’ll recall me writing a couple of weeks ago about Arsenal’s interest in defensive midfielder Maxime Gonalons. The Mirror are of the opinion that Arsenal have sent scouts to watch him frequently and are stepping up their interest ahead of a £15m move.

There have been too many links to Gonalons for there to be nothing in it, but considering Arsenal last ‘stepped up’ their interest a couple of weeks ago I’d call rehash on this one.

With that said, I’d also watch the situation closely; Gonalons could well be a Gunner within a couple of months. For those wondering how he’d fit in, read this shameless plug.

Just Kos we can

I don’t like Pep Guardiola, I’ve decided. I think it’s his bald, shiny head. And his silly beard. And his taste in frumpy sweaters. And his seemingly pathological need to buy Arsenal players.

His attention has now turned to Laurent Koscielny, with a £20m bid planned (allegedly). Arsenal are apparently confident of keeping hold of the defender regarded by many (myself included) as the best in the league. Despite the big money mooted he’s got 4 years left on his contract and has stated recently how happy he is in London.

Koscielny is the latest Wenger success story, plucked from obscurity at Lorient and now playing at the highest level a player can.

Here are Koscielny’s quotes from earlier this year:

“I still have four years left on my contract after June, I feel good in the club. They have faith in me. I’m happy in London, my family too, I’m not thinking about leaving.”

But then again, after Alex Song, I don’t know what to believe anymore.

Enough to make me Vorm-it

I think Michael Vorm would like to move to Arsenal. Unfortunately, I don’t think Arsenal want him to move to Arsenal. He’s been linked repeatedly by the papers, generally as an ‘Arsenal are also interested in..’ name at the end of reports. He’s now come out and said he’s ‘positive’ about the speculation:

‘It is all speculation, but in some ways it is positive because it means people look at you as someone who is doing well.’

Being coy won’t get you anywhere, Michel. As I’ve said, I think Arsenal are looking elsewhere for a goalkeeper, mainly due to the inflated PL prices. Vorm is a fine keeper, but not world-class and certainly not worth paying twice for. If you buy badly, you buy twice.
