Never trust Sir Alex Ferguson. After claiming he’d rest the likes of Carrick and Rooney against Arsenal and play a strengthened side against Chelsea, he did exactly the opposite, and took a point away from the Arsenal game, while losing to Chelsea. In some ways this is helpful, as it’s reconfirmed my hatred for Manchester United.

But it does leave Arsenal in a somewhat sticky position, with Chelsea ahead of them regardless of their result against Spurs, and with the possibility of a Spurs win leaving the Gunners in 5th and relying on the results of other teams.

DON’T PANIC

I for one, refuse to give in to the outstanding sentiment of the day, which is somewhere between ‘it’s gonna be tricky coming 3rd now’ and ‘AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH’. I still think Arsenal are in a reasonable position to make the automatic Champions League spot. Chelsea and Spurs play the Big Game on Wednesday night, with a draw an ideal result. If Spurs win, things get messy, but if Chelsea win it’s not a total disaster-though it does mean 4th is the only reasonable expectation. So hope for a draw there.

But when you compare the remaining games, Arsenal’s run-in is notably easier:

Arsenal                             Gareth Bale                                Chelsea

------------                         Chelsea (A)                               Gareth Bale (H)

Wigan (H)                        Stoke (A)                                  Aston Villa (A)

Newcastle (A)              Sunderland (H)                           Everton (H)

Some tricky games for all involved against relegation-threatened teams, but Arsenal have a fatigued Wigan and a ruined Newcastle to face, while Chelsea have Everton and the ever-spirited Aston Villa. Spurs have the Orcs and the Fascists.

I can see all parties dropping at least two points, but Spurs seem the most likely candidates. All Arsenal can do is keep winning. Right now we’re playing terribly and still winning. 180 more minutes of that and we’re 4th at least, as long as Spurs don’t win all their other games.

Sounds fairly simple. Ish. You’d like it to be easier, and Arsenal to have, I don’t know, won the league in March or something, but this is how it is.

YAY!

It is worrisome to see Arsenal having to pray to their god just to have a place among the top 4 EPL teams. Isn't that a shame with the wealth the club has? Will it not have been better for Wenger and the board to go get a world class striker that is a destiny changer? Last year we had one who saved our ass. I hate the feelings I get simply because a certain economist won't spend well. Maybe I should be the only Arsenal fan who should pray hard so that our failure to achieve a top 4 spot would open wide the brains and eyes of our coach and board.

Wigan may let go the Fa cup and concentrate on the pl by trying to beat Arsenal. They did when they were 2-0 down. There could be a repaeat if the gunners aint clinical.
If Arsenal lose and subsequently fail to get the cl,Wenger, imho, has to go. No ifs and buts.

The mighty Spurs will flog Chelsea (for AVB), and then lose to Stoke. But that will still be enough as Arsenal are not good enough to beat Wigan threatened with relegation.

No one mentioned the fact that Chelsea have to play Villa 3 days after Spurs. They'll have no legs left after Lennon cuts them off, whilst they double mark Bale.

A few Spurs players getting fit now back from injury. Writing is certainly on the wall in Woolwich..."the good times are over".....

How i said before...if we didn't lose those 2 points so stupidly against man utd. 2 points was enough for not depending on others games, just ours...i hope we will win the remaining 2 matches and tottenham lose or draws with chelsea.i cant wait for season end to finish this stressing situation, just like previous one.i wish good luck to the team cause now they need it!i will come back with a comment after the last game and i hope it will look like this:yesssssssssssss s!!!:D

In my opinion, even though arsenal are not playing at their best I still envisage the Gunners claiming either third of fourth. I am a bit nervy about the game coming up on Saturday because Wigan seem to be pulling of some good results in their last few games. However, the defining moment will be the final result on Monday night and Arsenal winning their two upcoming matches. If Spurs win which they won't, arsenal will be at a disadvantage and if Chelsea win we'll have to settle for fourth. I see both sides dropping points Wednesday evening and I am also seeing Chelsea losing out to Everton on the last day.

How about jew boys abramovic and levy
doing a secret deal Spurs beating Chelsea and both win the remaining two:):) Where does that leave Arseanal?? It is Gods hand made Spurs get a last minute point at Wigan and Made Bale score 4 mins to go against Southampton. .writing is on the wall. This time no Spurs reject keepers or David Deins secretive deals with Scudamore to stop the justice being served in a nicest manner.

Loving the one man team banter, very good

Draw vs Chels, win v Stoke and your game against an in form Wigan after 10 days of not playing and being 5th could be very tasty.

Even a win in that, having to go to Newc on the last day of the season needing a win would be additionally nervy, colocini and Ben Arfa back....
Lots of twists and turns, can't come quick enough!

We'll have Giroud back for the last game..who would have said we'd all be ecstatic/elated to see him back?

I definitely would - I can see he is class even if you are only just realising it now. Next season he will be banging all those chances in. Love him

Makes an interesting finale, spurs need to win on Wednesday for any chance, but typical spurs will beat Chelsea and then lose to stoke! I can see arsenal dropping 2 points espically if the magpies need a point on the final day of the season, I think it's between arsenal and spurs for 4th,
