With Manchester United chasing Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal have a little bit of a problem. The champions want to sign him this summer as a replacement for the outgoing Paul Scholes, but Barcelona are unwilling to sell him.

However, if they were eventually convinced to let him go, Arsenal would be given first option to buy him, for £30m. The question is if Arsene Wenger wants Fabregas back enough to pay that kind of money to keep United from getting him.

Resounding

We ran a poll recently, to see if Arsenal fans wanted Fabregas back or not. The answer was a massive YES, with 84.8% of voters saying they’d welcome the Spaniard back to the Emirates, with 11.6% saying no, and 3.6% not being sure.

So, it’s clear Arsenal fans have no issue with Fabregas returning, but they don’t choose who to sign. Arsene Wenger has made no secret of his belief Fabregas will return some day, but he didn’t factor in the possibility of interest from other clubs.

Snake

It gets worse. Robin Van Persie is apparently confident he can talk Fabregas into joining him at Old Trafford, clearly with the intention of creating an ex-Arsenal hate-nucleus at the club.

I wouldn’t discount the possibility, Van Persie had a lot of influence at Arsenal while he was there, with both Song and Walcott’s attempts to leave founded on his departure.

Career prospects

Fabregas himself is faced with a choice-wait another year without necessarily playing regularly, before Xavi retires and taking his place, or moving to Manchester United and being a major player, though hated by the only fans that still love him. It’s all down to the strength of his character, really.

That and how proactive Arsene Wenger is prepared to be.

Wenger paying around 25m for Fabregas this summer?

Poll results:

Yes - 74.2%
No - 21.4%
I don't know - 4.3%

I don't believe Cesc will leave Barcelona, he may not have played every game this season however he has played a lot. He is also being groomed as a future captain of the club. If he does become unhappy there for any reason, as everyone is aware we have first refusal. Cesc still has his house in London and loves the city, as does his other half. If AW is still manager when Cesc decides to leave Barca, he will come back to us without any doubt. With Fergie retiring there is no guarantee what is going to happen at Man U, he was never that close to the Dutch splitter anyway, apart from that RVP is now over 30 and probably only has one more season at the top left in him. More importantly than all that Cesc, Cesc is a Gooner at heart.

Wenger don't f*** around bring back this GENUIS back this summer.. Fabregas minus Bergkamp is the only player ive seen for Arsenal who see's passes no one else does and someone who is always 3 steps ahead of players on the field!

the fact we get first option to sign him is crucial. say wenger didnt want him back and then he goes to united you can only blame one man and thats wenger.

Cesc cannot come back like that. It will be such a defeat for him: leaving and coming back because he doesn't play. No way, he will never do that. And he will never go to United.

And BTW - many players leave for Europe to play at a different level - but going to the Man Us like RVP - saying Arsenal can win nothing - is traitorous.
If Cesc chooses that route - I'll be booing at Emirates when he arrives.

The key factor, which nobody has mentioned is Fabregas' physical condition. Arsenal know that better than anyone and that will influence Wenger's thinking.

In his last couple of years at Arsenal Fabregas had lingering injury complaints and the same has continued at Barcelona. That could be a hidden factor in why he doesn't start every match. Fabregas might want to play every game (just as he did at Arsenal), but they could be trying to manage his condition and avoid him getting a serious injury.
