While it was widely announced that Arsenal had a £30m bid turned down by Liverpool for Luis Suarez, last week, The Telegraph reported that we have upped the bid to £40m, possibly triggering the release clause in the Uruguayan’s contract.

This leaves it up to him as to whether he wants to move to north London or not.

The good

Luis Suarez is undeniably talented. He amassed goal to game ratio of over 1:2 (impressive for any striker) in his time at Liverpool, and got 30 goals in the most recent season. That is the type of player that Arsenal desperately need.

The loss of Van Persie has been made up for in other aspects of the game this season, namely by having a wider range to the scorers, with 4 players scoring over 10 league goals this season.

While Olivier Giroud has been a valuable asset to the club, providing lots of assists and a not insignificant amount of goals, he has come nowhere near what the main striker at Arsenal should be doing in terms of sheer amount of goals scored.

Suarez would get that. He is phenomenal on the ball, and scores an abundance of goals. He also created 85 chances last season, which was only bettered in the Premier League by Baines and Mata.

The bad

I will leave the “personal antics” to the ugly part of this article. Simply in terms of playing style, he can be incredibly selfish. He gets dispossessed an enormous amount of the time, as well as having the league’s second most turnovers.

Essentially with Suarez in your team, he will ask for the ball a lot, and then lose it… a lot! At 5’11, he is not especially good in the air, and if he were to replace Giroud as the main striker, Arsenal would have to rely on the 2 centre backs (any two of Koscielny, Vermaelen and Mertesacker) for any form of aerial dominance.

I know height seems like a petty thing when discussing someone that scores lots of goals with his feet, but it is worth considering, especially when comparing him to other potential transfer targets, such as Higuain.

The ugly

Where to start? He bites people, he dives, he racially abuses people, he is just a generally nasty bloke. While those things are all true, all of the problems that he has, have been done to death in terms of blogs and what other people have written with articles mentioning his character flaws. He is an awful person, we get that.

As far as purely footballing motives go, the biggest problem is that he is still banned for the first 6 games of the season, and the rate at which he is collecting bans implies that he will only get more, and they will be of increasing severity. Ticking time bomb.

The biggest criticism Liverpool fans would have of him is that he tends to end up banned for the biggest games… not what you want in a main striker and goal scorer.

The reality

Whether fans love it or hate it, Wenger wants Suarez, Suarez wants Champions League. The Telegraph is reliable enough that we can believe the interest/ new bid is genuine.

Whether both Liverpool and Suarez wait for a bid from Madrid remains to be seen, but if the reports of Suarez having a release clause of £40m are true, the ball is completely in his court.

He has previously mentioned being flattered by interest from Arsenal, only time can tell flattery develops into actual interest in him joining the club.

I for one would love the bitey-racist-prick to get the golden boot and win the league for Arsenal.

I don't care who we sign as long as they score 30 goals a season

Buy him for a year. Win the Milk Cup and satisfy the trophy starved supporters and then sell him to Real Madrid for 75 million. Issue antiseptics to all opposing players. Oh, and hope all the Arsenal supporters in year 1 don't do a "suarez" in the playground on other kids. Well worth it.

i would take rooney any day over suarez,as an arsenal fan for over 45 years now,i dont beleive anything anymore until the striker we do eventualy get signs the dotted line, higuin, suarez,r ooney makes no difference, probably end up with either benteke,or demba ba if we are lucky, all the other 3 strickers mentioned will be either staying at their club they are at now or moving in a direction other than the emirates, all paper talk yet again.

The last sentence summarizes the hypocrisy on Suarez. In the last two years, people of all clubs and colors were criticising Liverpool fans for defending Suarez, here we learned that fans of another club would not mind if the "bitey-racist prick" wins them a trophy. Double standards at its best.

Mehn...i realy dont care if he bites us to the league or any other trophy..even if i know he isnt the best in terms of making thhe headlines for only the good reasons this trophy drought have blinded my consideration for that..i would just about take any form of player that can fire us up to a trophy...be him cripple, a begger, a bitter, any things of any such. But once again players do change, if wayne rooney would leave the badside of his game and focus on the goodside of his game then i believe suarez can do the same..which better coach to help him than wenger
