Exciting news for Arsenal fans – as Latin American journalist Martin Charquero claimed that the North London side were close to sealing a deal brining Luis Suarez to the Emirates.

Charquero is a friend of Suarez, with the Uruguayan giving the journalist exclusive interviews over the past 2 years. Also, he was one of the first to claim Cavani to PSG.

The journalist announced on his Twitter feed earlier on today:

“Luis Suárez se acerca al Arsenal.” Translating to ‘Luis Suarez is close to Arsenal.’

Telegraph’s writer Jeremy Wilson added on Twitter:

“Arsenal are still very much in for Suarez #lfc #afc”.

Second time lucky

Arsenal had an initial bid for Suarez turned down after offering around £30million for the Liverpool striker. The next bid would be nearer the £40million mark, which would make it difficult to stop their top scorer leaving.

Suarez had wanted to leave England altogether, favouring a switch to Spain with Real Madrid. But with the La Liga giants valuating the number 7 at just £25million and failing to table any official offer, Arsenal now look to be the preferred destination.

Suarez recently joined up with the Liverpool squad during their tour of Australia after his extended rest due to the Confederations Cup. Boss Brendan Rodgers fully expects him to be part of the XI that starts their next game in the tour, but negotiation could take priority.

Whether Arsenal are to go ahead with the £40million signing remains to be seen but the deal is decidedly close according to Charquero.

He'll go to Madrid once they get rid of higuain to Napoli. Then wenger will say we tried and were close. We ain't signing nobody. They just fronting *** bids no one will accept.

The lad is a genious with the ball. That goal he scored when taking down a hail mary hoof... with his shoulder, only very few would have reacted as such, and pulled it off. It were a little Bergkampesc.

If Suarez is a big aid in securing us silverware... id sign him all day long. Their are plenty of high profile players who bring baggage. Ibrahimavic for one and who also won barca a cl final.

I'd take Suarez every day of the week rergardless of "***". Second highest scorer last year and he missed 8 games through suspention. plus he will have better support at arsenal in terms of team mates so he wont be getting angry that he's carrying the team which inturn stops him biting, spiting, racially abusing people. haha #AFC

Jesus Christ please wake up this will never happen in a million years.. You really think wenger will spend over 40 million on one player, with anger problems. who wil also miss the first 2 months of the season? It's just all bull****. We are arsenal not man city or the chavs

Have to agree with you .and these Liverpool boys think he's worth 50 million .have a word with yourselfs please

[quote name="gunner4life"]" 40 million is enough to trigger d clause and allow suarez to walk no matter what d club wants!"
Think you're jumping the gun, mate. £40Mill bid allows you to TALK to the player, that's all. Liverpool don't need to sell, don't want to sell, and would be crackers to sell to a Prem rival.
+2 #22 gunner4life 2013-07-22 22:33
regardless of his madness id welcome him to arsenal simply because he pulls them outa d top drawer 9 times oua 10..leathal player..prob 3rd best in d world behind messi n ronaldo
-1 #21 gunner4life 2013-07-22 22:30
liverpool can demand 50 million all they want,,if they wanted 50 million they should have put it into his get out clause but they didnt!! .40 million is enough to trigger d clause and allow suarez to walk no matter what d club wants!

Suarez is a warrior. Arsenal needs a player like Suarez. But, the Arsenal's manager/the economist may not offer the 40 million EUR.

He's just not arsenal!

Don't forget Arsene said he would not let nastier and Fab go...and what happened there. Brendan has no control in what Luis wants.

But he does control whether he can leave or not though, and, in the end, that's all that matters.

Suarez is not worth 50mill u know it Rodgers knows it and Wenger knows it anyone bids close to 40mill and they will land this guy he will be a great signing for the club he ends up at despite his baggage

That's funny, I, plus a millions of over people, know he's easily worth £50m.
-3 #16 mzie 2013-07-22 21:52
Actually it means Suarez is taking over Arsenal.. that could mean many things!!

Suarez is class ,despite the baggage. You need players with an 'edge'to there game to win trophies. Ian wright was no angel but he delivered goals and instilled fear into the opposition. Suarez is the closest player to wrighty today but even better.

Most of us don't, great player but he's a 100% turd. Higuain and Fellaini for that £50 million would do nicely

Do you think we will let a world class player (who is better than Cavani) go for anything less than £50m?
-3 #7 Alan 2013-07-22 20:05
If Arsenal give £50m they'll get him. Deep down Liverpool want rid of him because of his mental problems on the field.
#6 Matt. 2013-07-22 20:04
How would a bid of £40m make it difficult to stop Suarez from leaving when Liverpool aren't looking to sell and would only consider doing so if a bid of more than £50m was made?
+3 #5 Cou 2013-07-22 20:03
Martin gets a lot wrong too. AVB to Barca, gaston Ramirez to l'pool and many others. Don't get your hopes up gooners.
-3 #4 mala 2013-07-22 20:03
more bs
he has a value in the same bracket as cavani, those were rodgers words, but also he stated that even if someone matched that value suarz wouldnt be sold. hes not for sale
