Tonight’s game against relegation candidates Southampton provided the Arsenal with a chance to build on a solid run of results in the Premier League.

However, 90 minutes and 2 missed points later, we were lucky not to lose.

Theo Up-front?

I won't be the one to say he isn’t good enough that would be an unfair judgement.  However, if he can’t do it against Southampton, one must begin to wonder if he’ll be able to do it against bigger teams.

I also think that it is foolish playing him up front when we have Giroud on the bench who I believe has been in fine form this season.  Giroud’s impact was clear to see again as he came on tonight, the team picked up in a similar way to how they did when Giroud came on against Newcastle.

Theo didn’t do it for me tonight and I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks that.  This does not mean I don’t think he can play up front; I’m merely questioning whether it is his best position, especially as a lone forward.

Bacary Bye Bye?

Unfortunately for Bac, he was the worst player on the pitch today.  He made a massive error in the build up to the first goal and made numerous errors throughout the match.

He didn’t look like he wanted to be on the pitch at all today and that’s sad.  The current position of the club in world football requires players’ to show passion and desire to win the game.

Bacary has already criticised the team this year and he has been linked with a move away from the club.  I would not be surprised to see him leave in this window, which would be a real blow.

Dodgy subs again

The last couple of seasons have seen Mr Wenger criticised on numerous occasions for making poor decisions regarding substitutions.  This was the case again today when he brought on Gervinho and Ramsey for Chamberlain and Cazorla.

Gervinho was comically bad; his 20-minute spell on the pitch was a travesty.  What makes it worse was the fact that Chamberlain was having a good game; himself and Wilshere were making some really penetrating runs that were causing Southampton some problems.

Ramsey’s performance wasn’t as bad, but it certainly wasn’t his best.  Taking of Cazorla was another mistake as he was one of the better players on the pitch.  Over the past few months I have stood firmly behind Aaron Ramsey despite him being the subject of much criticism.

Despite this, after he gave the ball away during a good looking break today, I found myself questioning whether he should be as close to the first team as he is.

Following Jack’s example

My one wish after the game today is that every player plays with the same level of commitment as Jack Wilshere, he was sublime again today and not just because of his ability.  He is a natural leader on the pitch both in terms of his character and his play.  Any success our club has in the future will certainly revolve around him.

I noticed something in that match that I guess its just me alone that sees it. Arteta gives our midfield a minus 1 factor. What do I mean? Football has gone beyond being comfortable spreading d ball around you just as mikel does it for chelsea. It requires risk and arteta is just not risky enough that is why u find out that on counters we lack numbers. He is slow and predictable and cos of that we don't actually have a 4 in d team.also that puts a lot of pressure on carzola and he has 2 cover more grounds and that can burn out a player. It confuses me seeing arteta and wilshere that I ask who is the 4 in the team?

I disagree with a couple of the writers points, yes Sagna was useless and the substitutions were again poor; Gervinho is patently not up to the required standard. I would however submit that Walcott did not get good enough service, which was the main reason he struggled. It is a sad indictment of the mentality of the players that we cannot put teams like this to the sword and our coaching must include drilling some grit and determination into the side.
