After Arsenal’s ex-captain followed, “the little boy inside him,” to join Premier League rivals Manchester United, a title win under Sir Alex Ferguson justified his bold and controversial decision to jump ship.

With 30 goals in his debut campaign, the Flying Dutchman was given assurance that he would be working with English football’s most successful manager in the long-run, before the Scotsman’s shock retirement changed everything.

Throw out your toys because of Moyes

This season has been a different ball game, United’s aura fading as the Red Devils have collapsed in the FA Cup, League Cup and lie 6th in the league with European football looking a distant memory.

Following the defeat to Olympiakos in Tuesday’s Champions League last 16 tie, Robin van Persie admitted to the media that he was unhappy with his side’s performance, indirectly swiping at struggling manager David Moyes.

“Our fellow players are sometimes occupying the spaces I want to play in. And when I see that it makes it difficult for me to come to those spaces as well. So that forces me to adjust my runs, based on the position of my fellow players. And unfortunately, they're often playing in my zones. I think that's a shame."

Gunning for a return

What won’t help Manchester United’s morale is the constant paper talk surrounding a potential return to Arsenal for the unhappy van Persie.

It’s been reported that Arsène Wenger has met with his representatives in regards to a move back to the Emirates, a rumour that has been met with much skepticism from fans around the world.

But perhaps the fans who consistently accuse the rest of being fickle, are indeed the fickle ones themselves. No player becomes a bad one overnight. At his best, Robin van Persie is a world-class striker who can score goals, assist and produce pure magic on his day.

Rocking Robin

It is important to keep a neutral perspective on the player, as it is easy to get caught up in the bitterness and negativity that surrounded his swift departure. Look at the Gunners now – while Giroud manages to lead the line, what would the team have been like with van Persie rallying his troops?

The world class striker that was needed, who could have turned losses into draws, draws into wins, there can be no denying that the man could only strengthen Arsenal’s squad.

Loyalty?

Loyalty is a rare species in football. For every Steven Gerrard, there is, ironically, a Luis Suarez. Look at Wayne Rooney. Can you seriously justify that the player is a Manchester United man through and through after two strops and a transfer request, yet has signed a new contract time and time again.

£300,000 a week! I think I would consider that offer too, however ‘unhappy’ I may feel!

RVP, is he for me?

Taking a step back from press speculation, it is unlikely that van Persie will jump ship from Manchester United after one trophyless season. He did endure eight with Arsenal!

But what Arsenal fans should acknowledge, like they should with players such as Emmanuel Adebayor and Samir Nasri, is that Robin van Persie could still a job for Arsenal.

Call him what you like, boo him when he returns to the Emirates, but never forget:

Form is temporary, class is permanent…

Have your say - RVP to Arsenal?

No, thanks. Arsenal should not take this stupid guy back. He is old, but his mind is too young. He plays at Arsenal for 8 years, but when he scored against his former club and the club that makes him to be best striker, but when he scored, it seems like he scored in the final champion league against other rivals club. Ramsey did score against his loan club, just a loan club, but he did not celebrate. Look at VRS, too bad! no need to rude gay!

noooooooo, go where ever u want RVP but definitely not my Arsenal, go and carry trophys in Man U. we are ok with our players now.
#27 Alan Rad 2014-03-14 05:16
300 000 a week for Rooney is only 3.6million a year. keep him for 3 years and you have only spent what you would pay in the transfer market for a less than average 10 million midfielder.
BTW RVP is a C***

the little boy in him told him to go to united,..now the harlot in him is telling him to jump ship. ....pliz not to our Arsenal.

Its sort of accepted that a player does not celebrate too much when he scores against a previous club - in this case - who turned him into a world class striker. He did and for that I think he is a an insensitive ungreatefull prat so no thanks,But seriously we need a BIG stiker who can challenge for corners, hold the ball waiting for support and fall back into mid field and take the ball forward when needed. Because we have no BIG midfielders, we play far too much along the back row when we are on the counter and building attacks. I want another BIG player behind the stiker as well.

Robins Van Persie did it purposely at MU so as to return to Arsenal to make more funs of hip hops
#23 Fred 2014-03-09 22:47
Say he does come back and then he starts scoring goals.......what happens then.....do you celebrate or not celebrate? I'd get over it if he scored 30 goals for arsenal next season

He once pissed on the canon and he can't come back. All that stories about the little boy in him is of course made up by a PR-consultant, I don't buy that. And Rooney! What a wanker! He is so unhappy yet he signs a huge deal! He is no United man, he is an Everton man for Gods sake! I hope they don't sack Moyes and he lead them straight to the Championship next season, serves them right!

Wouldn't have him back for love nor money. He spent eight years leeching off Arsenal then after one decent year with the club buggered off to play with Fergies Freaks, now look at him. Can't score won't score, can't play won't play, next it will be can't stay won't stay. I hope his career is over. If he never kicked a ball again it would be too soon . Go to hell Van Persie ...and stay there.

flying dutch C**T................ .no space for him in the current arsenal team
+7 #18 Ruf 2014-02-28 00:28
Instead of the little boy van persie, i would prefer arsenal call upon joel campbell and carlos vela. them two can more than make up for a judas. he is not needed any more.

there are more options infact. including edwardo if we want an older head.

why waste space on a known and stinking judas?

+6 #16 Boto 2014-02-27 21:57
Why the hell would we want to buy a 30 something year old striker..? I love van Persie, but my God let's have some sort of PRIDE... The Likes of Suarez, Lewandowsky, Benzima, Higuain are what we should be chasing... Not RVP the fluff ball..

+11 #13 Liam 2014-02-27 16:09
You cannot deny his abilities, he's one of the best strikers in the world, but I would not have him back at Arsenal. There is this thing called 'pride' and it's quite important.
+10 #12 dyeruz 2014-02-27 15:45
I remember the joy on his face as he slid along the ground after scoring for United against us. One can understand leaving for trophies, but doing that is akin to spitting on the fans who once supported him even when he was injured. Not even a question of loyalty, just class.
-15 #11 onn 2014-02-27 15:04
Van persie will be good for arsenal scoring goals...I hope wenger can get him back to emirates
+10 #10 American gunner 2014-02-27 14:04
Hahah, this is a hilarious article. Have some pride Gooners, is there really no other striker in this world that could offer what this traitor does?
+9 #9 cannonball 2014-02-27 13:58
he can rot...our team has unity now, fickle or no fickle no coming back
+11 #8 Billy 2014-02-27 13:47
Wouldn't welcome him back at all. He isn't a true gunner!!
+10 #7 Nik - 2014-02-27 13:39
You are welcome to him; he has been the stand out problem for United this season. He's what I refer to as a fair weather player. If you are winning he plays and plays well, if you are not he's....injured or at the very least a very negative force to have around. I would actually prefer to have Welbeck and Rooney on the pitch; at least they both work for the team and pass the ball once in a while. Having a player like RVP in the team is like a cancer. He needs to go before he spreads
+10 #6 Berg10 2014-02-27 13:17
Nah, it's all downhill for him now. ***e hart lane next season reminiscing with greedybayor.
+14 #5 RVP RIP 2014-02-27 13:12
To be as eloquent as possible....RVP can go *** himself the money grabbing ***! I Thank you.
+14 #4 Mo Gooner 2014-02-27 13:09
Yeah he can have job cleaning our toilets and wiping the statues!
+16 #3 OZIL 2014-02-27 12:57
Yea no thank you. this is a guy who left arsenal after 1 real injury free season. And he didn't go to madrid or dortmund he went to man united. And on top of that we can bid 60-70 million for a striker in the summer so yea no thank you rvp.
+9 #2 Alex 2014-02-27 12:53
I do not deny it. I wouldn't welcome him back.
+15 #1 aa 2014-02-27 12:48
