I’m making a fairly large assumption here by saying that Lukas Podolski, the German international superstar (sort of), has agreed to sign for Arsenal in the summer. Reports vary from saying he has agreed personal terms to terms and a fee, or just would like to move in the summer.

Naturally, when reports say a player will sign for Arsenal, they do. No Mata what.

But let’s get to the point. What Arsenal are hoping Lukas Podolski will bring is goals. He has 15 in 19 appearances for Bundesliga side Koln and could have had more even at this stage if he hadn’t been injured in late January. Nothing on Robin Van Persie of course, but then again Podolski’s side are relegation battlers who almost totally rely on him for goals.

So he’s prolific. Great. So was Fernando Torres. What else?

Podolski wants to win things. Admittedly he may have some issues at Arsenal at the moment, but his drive and desire to be part of a successful team could inspire the rest of the squad to bigger and better things. Especially when we sign Mario Gotze, Eden Hazard and Lionel Messi in the summer. He can be deployed as an out and out striker and also in a wide role on the left wing.

This leads me onto my next paragraph.

Remember that Andrey Arshavin fellow? He was fantastic, wasn’t he? Four goals at Anfield, all kinds of great performances.

Then Arsene Wenger stuck him on the left wing. Suddenly the Russian genius needed to leave RIGHT NOW and gave a series of rubbish performances that eventually resulted on him being farmed back to his old club on loan.

Herein lays the problem. Arsenal have played a 4-3-3 fairly solidly for the last couple of years, with a couple of wingers and a central striker. Arsene Wenger may not want to deviate from this just for the sake of a new player, and assuming Van Persie stays Podolski will likely find himself out on the wing, where he can’t do what he’s best at-scoring. He’ll become frustrated and his performances will suffer, like Arshavin’s.

Admittedly Podolski plays this role fairly frequently for the German national team and doesn’t seem to mind, but it could still have a negative impact on his league form if he’s misused.

Of course I may be worrying about nothing. Hell, Arsenal might not even sign him! This could all be media speculation. And what do we have to complain about anyway! Chu-Young Park is the captain of his country, and Chamakh is infinitely more prolific than Fernando Torres.

he would fit in the arsenal mould, play wide with rvp through centre, or cover when rvp injured, would also be able to give rvp a break when he playing too many games!

Quoting rvp10:
Worth to mention that when rvp had that injury spree your type of guys were probably saying he had to leave! Get behind the team and stop whining ugh!

So you say you support Almunia, Bendtner, Mannone, Squillaci and Co? This isn't support but blind stupidity.

Worth to mention that he also had very unsuccessful spell at Bayern, then returned back to Koln..
