With speculation over Thomas Vermaelen’s future rumbling away, the links to potential replacements have resurfaced. This time the defender in question is Adil Rami of Valencia, a player Arsenal were interested in during his Lille days.

The source suggests that Manchester United are also interested, although there are question marks as to whether either side should be looking at Rami.

His release clause is around £20 million, which is a great deal to pay for a defender a level below that which either club’s fans would hope to sign. He’s a consistent performer for Valencia, but not fantastic or especially commanding.

Perhaps curse is a bit strong, but Arsenal have only managed to scrape together 3 points from the last four games against the cottagers, something that shouldn’t really be happening against a mid-table team.

Arsenal go into this game with the aim to ensure it is not 5 games in a row where we have dropped points against Fulham

Form Going Into the Game

Arsenal have managed to obtain 22 points from the last 9 games, with Fulham picking up just 12 from their last 9. They have only one point from their last 3 games, losing to United and Newcastle, while Arsenal’s draw against Everton was the first dropped points since the Spurs game.

It wasn’t even a subject for debate, really. When Alex Song moved to Barcelona in the summer, the fact he’d be underused and maligned, before becoming unhappy was an inevitability. And so it transpires, that’s exactly what’s happened.

The Cameroonian has started less than 15 games this season, and was recently reduced to helping the Barca kit man. There’s hence been speculation that he wishes to return to the side that brought him to prominence.

Arsenal face arguably their toughest test in their bid to qualify for next season's Champions League, as fellow “top 4” challengers, Everton come to the Emirates on Tuesday night.

There's a minor injury worry over Lukasz Fabianski. But he is expected to be fit, and the return to fitness of Tomas Rosicky, as well as Per Mertesacker being available after suspension leaves Arsene Wenger with a relative wealth of options for his first XI.

Andrei Arshavin has been somewhat in the news recently, with talk of him retiring prematurely. What is definitely known is that his Arsenal contract expires in the summer, and there is almost no chance of a renewal, especially considering he’s started two games this season, both in the League Cup.

Arsene Wenger said of the Russian:

“He will decide what to do. I don't think he will stay here because he doesn't play enough. He is an example to everybody.I must say that publicly I would like to give him credit, because he is working absolutely every session at 100% commitment.”
